Seattlites + Portlanders!
I will be in your fair cities this week (see this if you want to hang out!) and I'd love to sample as much coffee, glutenfree sammiches + yarn shops as possible.
So…what do you suggest?
Leave it in the comments and next Thursday I'll share all the places I went!

Dublin Bay in the pearl
Stay away from Knit/Purl because they are snooty and evil and told a pregnant friend that it was okay for her to shop there now, but don’t bring her kid back when it is out of her belly.
I love cascadia bakery for gluten free. Hit up @beccaseitzLAC, she knows where all the good gluten-free is, I bet.
Also, if you need a peaceful moment, check out the Japanese garden. It’s not yarn or sammiches, but it’s quite inspiring!

December 3, 2010 at 6:43 am (14 years ago)Howdy Tara,
Some ideas for the Seattle area: For coffee, I love: Vivace, Bauhaus, or Victrola. For gluten free baked goodies and other stuff, Flying Apron. For a really good place to escape the rain, go to the Conservatory at Volunteer Park. Wish I could help with yarn, but I’m actually not much of a knitter. (Yet. It could happen.)

December 3, 2010 at 6:32 pm (14 years ago)I haven’t really checked out the gluten -free scene in Portland, but I do know it’s booming. I can highly recommend Blossoming Lotus – a fantastic raw vegan restaurant that has plenty of gluten free options and is about 6 blocks from Twisted.
As far as yarn shops, I love Twisted, but you’ll already be there. The Yarn Garden is really nice, and has a HUGE selection. And if you’re willing to venture out a bit further from downtown, Northwest Wools is in a great little SW Portland neighborhood (it’s actually where I’d eventually love to live) and has a great cozy feeling, plus a spinning/roving room.

Knittn’ Kitten is a thrift fabric store, but it does have a little section of yarn/knitting stuff. SUPER cheap, bargain prices. Love love LOVE them in general.
If you want some gluten-free desserts, Back to Eden Bakery on Alberta Street is the way to go.
And there’s an indie coffee shop on nearly every corner of Portland, so if they serve Stumptown, it’s all good 😉
