Hi all! Missed chat this week, because I have a giant list of things I need to do and pack and needed the time.
Working on: Market yourself, slowly. I don't think I'm going to get the chapter I was targeting done before the trip– too many loose ends to tie up. Got 2lbs dyed and drying for a shop update shortly after I get back.
Going well: I…[Read more]

Working on: Dyeing yarn – finished all of this month's yarn club (will mail next week) and halfway through next month's. Need to do lots of dyeing for fiber festival coming up the first weekend in April. Various stages of patterns: two new releases today, one pattern in tech editing (then will be testing), one pattern just started on the…[Read more]

@angelique-stewart Wow! Amazing work! Just looking at your store makes me feel like such a guilty slacker. If you want any lessons in laziness I could give a master class.

I enjoy seeing you paint, but I don't think that's enough for you to keep going.
I'm going to ponder other benefits to you continuing, but when it comes to seeing sales as a result, I gotta ask: Are you sending people to a direct link? And mentioning at both the beginning and the end?
And perhaps this isn't directly-before-a-sale, but a good…[Read more] -

I looked at their blog post about vegetarians, and I mostly absorbed that they think I'm making bad life decisions 🙂
Since I get 99% of my protein from legumes (the other 1% from quinoa 🙂 )- if I *did* do it, it would just be the no sugar/alcohol/glutinous grains (ie, flour and wheat). I shall ponder, but doing it with you might be reason enough! -

I prefer, above everything, WordPress, installed on hosting that you buy (you can also get that through GoDaddy, or BlueHost, which is what I recommend). I've laid out the steps here. WordPress is a free installation, and you can find thousands of free templates. You can also ask for help with it here, or even hire someone (Penny is a…[Read more]

@karen-lepage Any chance Saturday works for you? As I think that works for @lynn-hershberger?
If not, we'll go with Friday.
Either way, let's plan on dinner around 6:30 or 7? I gotta be in bed by 10 in order to teach 6 hours the next day (no matter what day we meet).
As for places to eat – I ate at Melt at TNNA and it had vegan options and…[Read more]

Feeling kind of under the weather. Sore throat, earaches, really tired. Really hoping this doesn't turn into a month long feel-like-hell fest.
Whatcha workin on? What’s going well?
I FINALLY bought a new computer! Woo! So I'm tweaking everything to get it the way I want, moving files over, installing newer versions of software I've been using, e…[Read more]

Riin Gill replied to the topic Trunk Shows at Local Yarn Shops in the forum Engineering 9 years, 6 months ago
I've done several trunk shows, ranging from an afternoon at a local shop where I show up with the yarn to a two week show where I ship the yarn to a shop that I've never set foot in. When I ship, the store owner pays for the shipping both ways.
I prepare an inventory list ahead of time so they can make sure everything is there when they get it,…[Read more]

My checkbook is a bit thin right now too, so I should probably pass. The money comes, and the money goes.

I'm on Periscope as @amysnotdeadyet, and I primarily do live art, with some chatting and showing off of for-sale items. My setup is such that I really am not in the scopes except for my hands, and honestly if I had to be on camera, I would definitely not ever do it.
I rarely if ever get even 10 people watching, usually 2-5. There's some…[Read more]

As I mentioned in chat tonight, I'm starting the Whole30 program next Tuesday, 16-Feb-16. Is there anyone who's interested in going through it with me? Or have you gone through it previously and have advice suggestions?
All the info about Whole30 is at Whole30.com

Any updates @elaine-vandiver? I just saw this thread and the difficult situation, wondered how the meeting went.
Good advice above. I can't add except to say I have had a couple of drama situations the last few years involving my business and people I considered friends. I had the same struggle of coming to terms with standing up for what was…[Read more]

Yay, @elaine-vandiver, I'm so glad that it went better than you expected! I was reading along and trying to formulate a reply…but then you got better suggestions from the others than I could have ever said!
It sounds like the mental preparation you did for this meeting is going to serve you well in this relationship in the future, no matter…[Read more]

@mary-roth YAY for a great January! And YES, Market Yourself is pretty intense. I definitely didn't write it to be gone through in a week. You're building the very foundation of how you'll talk about your work, so it needs to take a bit of thinking 🙂
@jill-maldonado Yay for recognizing you need/deserve breaks! Happy February!

I just read my 1:1 email session from Tara, and one of the things she recommends for me is to set up a website. I just purchased the domain names “Knot Just Crocheted” and “Knot Just Sawdust” from GoDaddy. For those of you with websites, where do you recommend setting up a site- that would be low cost and easy to set up?

Why I switched from ConvertKit to Mailchimp
As promised – here are all the thinkings behind my recent big change! This is over 1700 words, so feel free to just read the summary 🙂
The summary of everything below is this: I changed to CK because I have a LOT of lists, and Mailchimp counts everyone on a list as a new “subscriber”.
And it doesn't…[Read more] - Load More
