@lindsey-spoor I'd give him both the rental and mortgage. Do you have suppliers that you can use? Sometimes you have to get creative. You'll be asked the same thing with vendors for your shop. Do you have a credit card? That usually works.

@riin-gill I have no idea! It was a sterling silver setting (good conductor of heat), made in Mexico City, probably in the 1960s.

@jill-wolcott Wow. How hot did it get? Did someone try to solder it without removing the stone? That's a no no.

@riin-gillon mine it took away the color. It looks like an opal sitting in a rock. I think it is cool, but not everyone would.

@jill-wolcott Did the heat change the color of the stone?

@riin-gill, Mitch was delighted! My wedding ring ended up costing less than his! I'm not sure that balance has continued. 😉 I have an opal ring of my grandfathers, and it was damaged because the sterling conducted heat to it–but I love the damaged stone more than if it were perfect.

What's going well?
I released a pattern on Friday after a 4-month hiatus! I even saw a few sales even though I didn't do much more than some really basic marketing.

Whatcha' workin' on?
Trying to finish up a design going to KnitPicks.
I have also been updating the storefront on my website, slowly adding products.

I also am one that doesn't care for diamonds (I do have one in my engagement band). I love opals, rubies, emeralds, sapphires and amethyst … all the bright colors.

@riin-gill I'm with @penny-shima-glanz on favorite gemstone. I'm not a fan of sparkly things like diamonds. My wedding ring is BC jade.
