I agree. I'd rather have links that just have stuff taken and used (people tend to forget the attribution part).

I'm so sorry it's making you cry! Another encouragement to go see an accountant (I paid $150 for one hour of an accountant's time, just to ask questions like this).

Like Jess said, if you're just adding a link, I don't think any permission is needed. Embedding or using a graphic on your own site would need permission, but a simple link is fine.
