@kathleen-dames, @tara and @varian-brandon, I'll see what I come up with. Martini's comes to mind, because it is just across from the convention center. The Hilton bar would also be good. Anyone else have thoughts?
Anyone else going to TNNA? @april-ridgeway, @ann-tudor, @lindsey-spoor?

Hi Michelle,
I was in transition for too long before I finally left my regular paycheck gig; I'd transitioned it to part-time several years earlier. A combination that we moved (faster commute but more expensive), they still wanted me there at the same rate they'd been paying me for about 4 years, for the same number of days but for fewer hours…[Read more]

@tabitha-dukes I should add that I pay on receipt, but I've been looking at weekly photos from my sample knitter so I'm not surprised when I get things. I agree to pay postage both ways and I then don't have to deal with the bookkeeping twice if I do it myself.

@tabitha-dukes I use my USPS account to purchase a mailing label (priority) to me. I save the pdf and send it to the knitter. I have one knitter who doesn't have a printer so I purchase the label and send it at the outset. I've used labels later–I'm sure they hate it but the mail still goes through.

Thanks, @dana-gervais. I am not paying in advance (still too much of a cynic for that) but she asked to be paid in yarn so I won't be sending her money. I may try using a Flat Rate Priority mailer. The PO OIC said that would be better than putting stamps on it because it would not be treated as “anonymous” mail since it would be trackable to me.

@tabitha-dukes I'm not in the US, so my experience may not be relevant, but since I don't pay sample knitters until I have received and inspected the project, I ask them to include the cost of shipping when they invoice me and they Slack me a copy of the post office receipt when they ship the finished item.

Jill, sounds good. There's so much going on that a meet up for drinks sounds much more doable.
I did not initially sign up for the BCS dinner, but am thinking it is something I want to do. Trying to add it to my registration…which can hopefully happen. Bottom line…a 5:30 meet up works best.Got a suggestion for the bar?

I'm using wordpress with woocommerence.
I love that I paid for them template (and I also paid someone to install it for me) and then I customized it and now I just pay hosting so it comes out to about $8 a month for that (I pay yearly and use Siteground). The template was $70 I think and it was $50 for someone to install it. I don't have to pay…[Read more]

Going well: I had a wonderful time last week at PLY Away (spinning festival) where I worked the registration table and took a few spinning classes. It gave me a little break that was really helpful to get myself motivated to dig back in to work this week. (And helped motivate me to make more time for spinning as a relaxation tool.)
Working on:…[Read more]

Last year I moved my shop from Etsy to Shopify. I'm using the Basic Shopify plan which is $29/month (though I paid upfront for the year, which I believe means I got a slight discount).
I like that I can list as many items as I want and there are no listing fees like on Etsy (the flat rate monthly fee is great for figuring out expenses, and it…[Read more]

So many things. Moving forward on everything and it feels good. Got the pattern out yesterday despite some last minute perfectionism that almost derailed it. Well, at least it's out and not causing any more mental clutter, at least for that part!.whatcha' workin' on?

I noticed that Etsy seem to be in dire straights at the moment, so I'm opening this thread to share peoples top tips on moving shop. Which platforms work best? What are the loopholes and stumbling blocks? Fees? Payment systems? What are you using, and what do you love or hate about it?
