Hi, Hannah (@hannah1279213) and Deborah (@deborah488689)! Welcome!
Hannah–I see that you're in PA. I grew up in Scranton and my husband is from Johnstown. 😊 We're in Texas these days, but our families are still in the northeast for the most part.
Deborah–My background is in science, too, though chemistry rather than biology. I ran away from…[Read more]

I do. The majority of my customers are not on Ravelry. I need to do it better, but having a reviews page is a start. I'd love to have them incorporated into my pattern descriptions more.

@hannah1279213 and @deborah488689: Welcome to the Starship!
Hannah: Your work is very nice! I see a few things I may have to add to my own wishlist. And yay that you're a knitter as well!
Deborah: Yay for another Oxford comma user! Alongside my yarn dyeing and pattern designing, my other job is freelance copy editor. I'm working on a book right…[Read more]

How about working with a yarn company or indie dyer? I've used a couple of bigger yarn company yarns in the past, and my patterns (one each for two different yarn companies) were featured on the Facebook page for that yarn company. (In both cases, I didn't even contact the yarn company; they must have just found my patterns on Ravelry. But seeking…[Read more]

Hello! So glad to finally be here! I heard about the Starship through Heather Ordover's “CraftLit” podcast several years ago. I've wanted to join since then, but I felt I didn't have the time (or the money). However, I realized that there would never be the “perfect time,” and I needed (to steal from Nike) to “Just do it!”
I don't have a website…[Read more]

I prefer the purple paper of those two examples.
Another idea would be to look for natural materials you could photograph against. I have a wooden chest that I photograph against sometimes. I've tried moss and that was pretty fun. I like the idea of finding a background that ties into the feeling you want to create with what you're photographing.…[Read more]

(Sorry if this is a duplicate post…I thought it posted, but I can't see it anywhere so I'm trying again)
Yay! I'm here!
My name is Hannah. I started knitting when I was 5 years old and that has remained my primary crafting love, however my business is making things out of wood. My father is a career wooden spoon maker, so I grew up watching…[Read more]

Thank you so much @grace-shalom-hopkins! You're right, one of my favorite things is looking at everyone else's projects so I think it's going to be a picture heavy page, assuming I can get people to agree to post pictures 😀

Grace Shalom Hopkins replied to the topic Dyers and Designers – what is your model for sell kits? in the forum Engineering 7 years, 11 months ago
I am really thinking about this too with my books. I'd like to offer a kit with the books but I am not sure if I should partner or do it myself. Hmmmm. 😛
I find partnering with another maker doubles your reach, more so if they are bigger than you. So that's a huge bonus. Also people trust their quality which reduces risk they won't like the…[Read more]

I honestly don't feel drawn to either one… Sadly.
I did put together several listings that I love with props you can do easily. These photos and styling really POPPED to me! Things I didn't like was plain backgrounds and models, shockingly.
Bowls! I love the simple styling of a plain bowl and maybe a flower or something beside it. Then later…[Read more]

On my Etsy pages for each book I insert testimonials in between the paragraphs. 🙂
I love to see on a designer's page samples and quotes. On Indie sewing pattern pages people often link the instagram tag of the item so you can sort through the projects and their comments on it. That is MY FAVOURITE 😀
