@sloane1407278: First, welcome to the Starship!
I've self-published two knitting books (the second one has just been released). For the first book, I did a crowdfunding campaign for it. For the second book, I took pre-orders.
I used a crowdfunding platform that is no longer in existence that was specific for books (I found it because Donna…[Read more]

I wonder if @katie-franceschi can share what she uses for inventory management?

You got the replies I was going to say, already:
*Work with yarn makers – even if they're no “bigger” than you, they have different people in their audience. Don't just use their yarn, create a whole product launch together! They LOVE to have designers work in their yarn!
*Ask podcasters to review your patterns and give them a free one! Give…[Read more] -

I don't know specifically about the software you're looking at, however in my old life I used to implement systems for managing logistics on a large scale.
Before selecting a system, we would always start by drawing a map of the process we needed the system to automate. It doesn't have to be complicated, just note down all the activities that…[Read more]

@carmen-nuland Thank you for that! I have not heard of a lot of those. I'll have to look into them.

Dana Gervais replied to the topic Dyers and Designers – what is your model for sell kits? in the forum Engineering 7 years, 11 months ago
I wholesale the pattern to the dyer and they make and ship the kits. I help promote the kits/yarn on my blog, newsletter and social media.

What's going well? I'm almost done with the pattern writing and sample knitting for my new book. It has almost twice as many patterns as the one I did last year, so this feels like a big accomplishment…and I'm also way further ahead of schedule than I was on the book I did last year, which got done in a bit of a sprint of fury. I'm trying to…[Read more]

Hi! I'm Sloane! I'm a knitwear designer (and a dipping-my-toes-into-it yarnmaker), and my website is http://www.tightlyknitdesigns.com. You can also find me on Ravelry and Instagram as skrosenthal, if you're into that kind of thing 🙂 I'm 32, and I live in a tiny town in Northern California with my husband and our two kids. I started designing in January…[Read more]

I can't give you a definitive answer but I did some research of my own earlier this year. I just haven't made a commitment to one yet.
Craftybase looked interesting but I think that is pretty much just inventory tracking, not a full accounting package (although you can create a Schedule C). Zoho looked promising but it's blocked at my…[Read more]

Amy Crook replied to the topic Which background do you like better? in the forum Engineering 7 years, 11 months ago
Haha, I of course like the gray rock, but I think the first photo (brownrockotherside) is a nice compromise between the two? And honestly, it probably depends on the piece — I like the gray rock because it makes these stones pop, but another piece might be better on the brown.

Jess Cook replied to the topic Dyers and Designers – what is your model for sell kits? in the forum Engineering 7 years, 11 months ago
When I made kits for Storied Yarns I was the dyer, so that's the largest/heaviest item. Then I found designers to make patterns for me and we agreed on a period of exclusivity and a price per pattern that I'd pay them. Then I think they gave me coupon codes or some other arrangement so I could gift people the code through Ravelry if they bought…[Read more]
