Hannah Simons started the topic Trouble Getting Payment from Stores in the forum Engineering 7 years, 11 months ago
Good morning and happy Monday!
Right now my work space is cluttered with wholesale orders that are packed up and ready to ship…but I'm waiting for payment. Usually when I write an order I don't take the payment immediately, because I don't want to charge the customer until the order is ready to ship partially because there are often last minute…[Read more]

Thank you @jess-cook! And @elizabeth1356720 for starting the thread. I was also just looking into Asana and wondering about how it could be useful.

Thanks @jess-cook
Your reply helps me think about how in the long run this project software will help me organize and keep on task.
I really like how you described how it could be incorporated into the quarterly map making method.
Thanks, Liz

@anna1429333: Welcome to the Starship! You have cute things in your shop! My “baby” is about to start kindergarten in just a few weeks! Fitting in the business with a toddler was a challenge, but I got through it (now there are different challenges). Sending good thoughts your way to get a good balance while you're reworking your shop!

Ooh, I love me some Asana! I do use it with teams only right now, because I'm a pen-and-paper kind of a girl when it comes to my own To Do lists and project management. However, I could see it being super useful for something like map-making: you could go in there and make a project for your map goal, and then list out your mile markers and your…[Read more]

Hi! I am Anna, and I live in Franklin, TN with my husband and daughter. By day I am a working mom, spending my day staring at spreadsheets(I am a Sales and Operations Analyst) At night, I sew handmade baby gifts and gift sets. I am in the process of reworking my shop, with a bigger focus on creating baby shower/new mom gift sets. My Etsy shop is…[Read more]

@dawn-craig That is my concern as well, that after a few weeks it will be a program that will fall by the wayside.
Though, I do hope to plan some of my bigger projects out with it. However I am not certain how it will be better than using Evernote to gather ideas and links for big projects that require a lot of moving parts.

I'd like to hear how others are using it too… especially those that don't use it with a team because that's what I've hard most talk about. I tried it and had trouble keeping up with it after the first few weeks.

Hello,
Tara shared that she uses Asana to track her individual projects. I have looked into it, and I am sure it will be helpful once I get used to the system, however…
Does anyone else use it? If so, how long did it take for you to get up to speed with using it effectively? What features do you like most about it?
Thanks, Liz

I typically don't so much journal as have a brain dump because that's just what works for me. I usually use my bullet journal because I always have it with me. I'd try both if you aren't sure which helps you the most.
I think making something, anything is a good idea.
Also most people's passion doesn't come like a lighting bolt, it's usually a…[Read more]

Yes, I think I'm getting pretty close to looking for some part time work. Also, this extra money will help out at home as well as help should I want to try out new creative pursuits (in other words, buying more supplies).
Everyone is giving great ideas, thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I'm going to figure out a plan of attack over…[Read more]

“Too much in my head”, that could be a big part of it. I have written all over my white board, taken notes/sketches/ideas, etc. I'm just waiting for something to click.
I do want to keep my Etsy shop, as my online reputation (feedback) is excellent and it shows I'm a trustworthy seller. I'll keep the name, as I purposely chose something that…[Read more] -

I like consistency, as a consumer. If you design under a particular brand name then I would probably search that name on social media to tag you or follow you, for instance (like Tin Can Knits instead of their individual names). So I don't know that you need to change your business/designer name, but if you want to make all your social media…[Read more]

@karen-robinson: I can see I'll have to tread very carefully in that group. I think they are well intentioned and will be good for me in the beginning, but yes, they are strict! I'm sure I wouldn't like being dinged for that any more than you did – and I believe that luckily you don't need them any more! 😉 Yes, you're right: I am hoping to be…[Read more]

I'll just say that I wish I had all the same names across all the platforms because it's a little bit of a pain to have them all be different. Ravelry is karendawn, Facebook page is karendawndesigns, Instagram is karendawnknits, and the business I really focus on is Round Table Yarns. Part of me wants to keep the karendawn part because I want to…[Read more]

@rachel-brooks: I do agree that if you're just starting out with tests, the strict Free Pattern Testers group might be a good option since you haven't yet built up a group of test knitters and that can help you sort through the volunteers to get more solid testers. I do understand the reasons for the rules, and in theory, they are good. But when I…[Read more]

Another thought I had just as I hit Submit on the above post. Maybe sit down and write out the reasons why you closed the dyeing business. What was it about that pursuit that made you decide that you'd had enough and wanted to move on? What do you see your business life like instead? Maybe if you figure out what you don't want, it can help you…[Read more]
