I agree with the other ladies. I only return the friend/follow/like if they have something I like. I don't subscribe to the like for a like mentality and figure if it offends someone then they can get glad the same way they got mad.

I don't friend back on Facebook (I rarely check my account there, either) or on Flickr.
On Ravelry, I do friend back because it gives me the opportunity to store some information on the person. I.e. I have a friend group for customers, for students, for testers, for people I met at a yarn festival, for people on the Starship…
