Ok, so I've created a small off shoot of our yarns for a small niche of customers after going to an event with my mother in law who happens to be a cardmaker. I was swarmed by little old ladies that wanted my yarns in small quantites in color coordinated packs for cardmaking…so I complied and now I'm working on a marketing plan for getting my…[Read more]

Congratulations all you map-makers. @mary-roth, @lesley-austin, @clare-devine! And others I may have missed.
I got my mile markers done today for my quarterly map–been working on a bigger one. I've arranged it so I am going to Denver without my computer–just papers, pens, and map-making supplies! Of course, probably not a lot of time, but…[Read more]

Congratulations @mary-roth! Your map is so cheerful and enticing and I hope enjoy your stroll (hike?) along it. I smiled at your tweaking comment as I've had to be honest with myself and my map-tweaking…but so far, it is not me procrastinating on the tasks. : )

I will, too, be following this thread. I like many things about MailChimp, and dislike many. Was so interested in everything I read about ConvertKit in that link, but did not like the price. Some further research may show me that it isn't as expensive as it seems, with each person only being counted once (no matter how many of your lists they are…[Read more]

Finished my marketing map! I almost re-drew the whole thing to space things out nicer and tweak things, but then I realized that was just me trying to avoid the other things I need to do by trying to be perfect.
I want to make a little stick figure or star to indicate where I am. The little hearts will get put where on the path they fall when I…[Read more]

Just finding this, @grace-shalom-hopkins. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with me. I had come to the same conclusion in the past few days and sorted out my Daybook buyers last night, in preparation for getting in touch. And I'll need to set up a new list at MailChimp.
I am wondering now if I confused the Etsy practices around…[Read more]

@karen-robinson It seems like a lot of us are shifting focus in our businesses this year!
I really don't have an answer for you about the name. I have been through 3 now, Crochet Legacy from 1998 until 2010, KRW Knitwear Studio from 2010 – 2015 and now Karen Whooley. I cannot tell you how much I agonized about each of those changes. I think…[Read more]

Tanja always asks such good questions!
If I were to sign up for a newsletter, I might like something inspirational–just for me to think about or something simple like that–or a list of questions to see if coaching would be a good fit with my goals.
I'm a little baffled at needing to give an incentive, but we seem to have trained people to…[Read more]

These are great questions, Tanja, thank you!
What people do you want to reach with your newsletter?
The newsletter would be part of the “come closer” part of my customer path. For people who want more of me than the blog posts. So, between blog readers and paying customers. Are they the ones who need goodies?
I don't know! I'm thinking now…[Read more]

That is a big shift in focus you are having! Good luck!
I'm not sure about the store name but as for yarn bases, I'd go for C. Having skeins dyed to order smacks of an extra luxury. A and B have a touch of neglect for the unloved yarns.

My North Star for this year is Balance, and I’ve been thinking a lot about what is working and what isn’t working in my business(es) and how I can make sure to keep balanced this year (instead of feeling like I have to do all the things). And this has been something that has been on my mind for a while, something I’ve actually tried to push aside…[Read more]

Whatcha working on?
Writing patterns, agonizing over marketing. Tara gave me an impulse yesterday that made me realize the best way is to start with Craft your Marketing again. It is on my list for today.
I'm expecting the proofs for my basic crochet book. What’s going well?
Yesterday, I spend with an indie dyer, Sabine from Freche Wolloase, a…[Read more]

@jacquie-wareham, yay for not having to deal with taxes!
My two cents on your question: I sign up for a newsletter when I think there will be interesting content – be it because it is like blog posts or because I just want to know the new announcements of a business.
Certainly, one goodie gets people to sign up.
Mainly, I got some questions:…[Read more] -

I’ve been going through this really intensive week of self discovery. When I wrote the first part of this post I really didn’t quite have all the puzzle pieces yet. I feel like it’s necessary to add on.
The condensed version of the story is I enrolled in a money mindset course about 6 months ago because I really wanted to heal my crappy relat…[Read more]

Whatcha working on?
Decided not to do map-making this quarter. I have a pretty comprehensive plan on my wall planner. Each post-it is a project, such as “research HST tax and figure out if I need to sign up” and “Customer path”. There are more post-its since I took this photo, but there's only physically room for 6 on a month, so I can't put too…[Read more]
