I round up or down, and I think there's not much else you could do. A .5 measurement is okay now and then, for inches, I sometimes use .25, too.
Remember, when you measure your sample, it almost never fits inches exactly. You get 33 and a tiny bit of a stitch on 4 inches and you just neglect the tiny bit.
