@jill-wolcott I'm actually really against .25 for cm because it can't be measured on any tape measure or ruler. I can measure .2 or I can measure .3 but not .25 — why don't you look at your row gauge and figure out how big one row is to guide you? Even if you're getting 32 rows per 10 cm that means 1 row is .3 cm tall — that's why I round to .5…[Read more]

@jacquie-wareham Wonderful that you got back into feeling your positive self!
As for your questions: Maybe put that into an extra thread so more people see it?

Thanks @joeli-kelly and @tanja-osswald! Even though I started this thread, I didn't get your responses in my email.
I'm fairly precise in my inch measurements, but I think since the cms are already more precise, I'll just use the .25 rounding

I'm going to add it's a gut feeling thing. Especially in the crafty world – if I feel like that person has stolen my spirit without credit or I have some proof of it, then it feels like stealing.
But we are such a tight pool of thought that we often draw back and forth and it can look really convoluted from the outside.

Round to the nearest tenth for super accuracy or nearest .5 cm. Half a centimetre is the easiest to measure on a tape measure. So 6.985 goes to 7cm. 5.715 goes 5.5 cm (.74 and under goes to .5, .75 and over goes up to next whole number)

Riin,
You can use my stuff without the “if something doesn't work” part–it is a form meant to be adjusted to fit. -

Thanks for finding this, @laureen-marchand! I actually got that email and now I found the date – somewhere hidden way down in the text, not highlighted.
She also wrote “I’ll be reading and replying in both places until December 31.” Wish she had… -

@riin-gill I have my patterns professionally tech edited. sometimes before and other times after. Depends on the situation. Whatever the case, stitchers are to let me know about problems immediately when working on the pattern.

@jill-wolcott I was there only once so far (and before I really started as a designer), with a ticket from a friend who knew a yarn shop who… It is the biggest yarn fair in Germany for LYS owners and other professionals. I heard that it is a big meet-up for designers, too; I'll probably check that out in 2017. 🙂

I have not used Sample Crochet/Knitters. Like you, @riin-gill, I need to design on the hook/needles. As I go I type the pattern into my layout template. My working project is my sample project and is used in the photos. If there are variations and I'm not sure of my calculations I will make another sample. Or if I like the design but want to see…[Read more]

Yes @tanja-osswald that's the show. I know nothing about it, and haven't had any time to follow up.
You know me, Tanja, always more aware of the not done than the done. 😉

@linda-tieu It is not an easy question. They would sell more if they had a proper website, showing off their work. But then, they had bad experiences in the past and now make do without.

Since I started designing, I've had about 4-7 test knitters per pattern test for me. They receive the pattern from me in it's draft state (after I swatched and played with stitch patterns and done all the designing aspects of the pattern), they use their own yarn, and they knit the item contacting me as they go if there are any issues or…[Read more]

So do you have your patterns tested? Or do the sample makers test as they go?

Karen replied to the topic Designers, I'm confused! Test knitters vs. sample knitters? in the forum Engineering 9 years, 6 months ago
Hi @riin-gill,
This is how I look at it. Test knitters are just that, some one who tests the pattern. They select their won yarn and make the pattern. They usually are not compensated other than a thank you and recognition in the pattern.
Sample makers are what I use. They have contracts, due dates, I supply the pattern and yarn and in…[Read more]

Ok, I have a question for all the crochet and knitwear designers. Yesterday I asked if anyone would be willing to share the contracts they use for test knitting and/or sample knitting, and Jill was kind enough to email me her contracts. But she has knitters test as they're sample knitting.
I googled test knitting and found a lot of articles, and…[Read more]
