I find myself wondering, you consider her your friend, but…why? Look at the way she treats you. Is that how friends treat each other? If you didn't know her at all, and you got a glimpse of the future, i.e., the way she treats you now, would you recognize that as friendship?

@tanja-osswald
How important is that friendship to you? It is important from the stance that we are in the alpaca business, which is a small one, on top of the fact I'm in a really small town. Having animosity is definitely not a preferred outcome. If anything, I'd prefer our friendship to naturally sunset, versus a big explosion! But you…[Read more] -

How would you handle this if the person were not a friend? – that is a great point. I probably would have nipped it way earlier. I have a tendancy to give friends more wiggle room. But truthfully, this is the first time I've done business with a friend; it has been quite an education.
Is it possible to get out of the current…[Read more]

Thanks for the clarifiction, @elaine-vandiver, I mixed up “next” with “coming”.
One more thing about outcomes: It might be that you won't be friends anymore after the meeting. How important is that friendship to you? Enough to let your business be run to the ground by a manipulative alcoholic? I'm being drastic here but then, after reading your…[Read more]

Re: the contract renewal – it will be in October 2017, so next October. Sorry if that was confusing!I love the rubber hand approach.
Thank you so much for the feedback, very much appreciated!

My sympathies. That is not an easy situation.
I think you are right to have an agenda and to do your best to stick to it!
It is your business too & a partnership should be mutually beneficial.

*hug* This sounds like a really tough situation.
You asked, “Should I write myself an agenda/script and just stick to it?”
I'd say yes. Definitely have a list of what you want to cover at the meeting and plan out what you're going to say. Have specific suggestions for how you want this collaboration to go for the duration of the contract (how…[Read more] -

Oh my, you have my sympathies, @elaine-vandiver!
One thing I don't understand: You say you have a three year contract and are part-way through the second year. How does that fit with getting a new contract this October?
Some feedback on your questions. I'm not an expert but maybe it helps to get feedback at all.

I am in a bit of a predicament.
My husband and I signed a contract with another farm, also a husband-wife team, but the wife is definitely in charge. When we entered into the agreement, we had already started developing a friendship with them. We purchased our first alpaca from them, so it was more of a business type friendship – something…[Read more]

Actually, I asked a lawyer about these things and I should have had my technique protected when I came up with it first (I just know the German law terms about this, so I'll leave it that vague).
The lady found out about my technique when we both joined the same blog promotion. I have not bought her pattern, so I don't know about her wording.

My first monthly review, yay! I got a really good shop update done in January, which was my big goal for the month — being at least partly restocked after the holidays feels good. And I painted most days last month, at least till the last week. I'll get back on track tonight and keep doing the daily painting/drawing.
This month, I have…[Read more]

Hmm…I wasn't planning on coming, but now I want to.
@karen-lepage, do you have room for me in your car and in your room if I throw money at you?

I just finished my reorientation and reassessment for January and what I discovered is that I should just take January off. I didn't get any of the things planned that I had intended. And honestly, I can't blame anyone or anything except myself. I procrastinated horribly and just really didn't feel into it. I think perhaps next year I should…[Read more]

Hey Midwesterners! I'm coming to Columbus, OH to teach at Midwest Craft Con on February 18-20! (Details here)
I know several of you are coming, so let's plan a meet-up (whether you come to the conference or not! I don't care either way, I just want to see you!) I'll be there Friday and Saturday night (we're getting in too late on Thurs to do…[Read more] -

Oh, ugh! I am so sorry you're dealing with this, @tanja-osswald!
This seems tricky because she's using a technique and not a specific pattern, and I have no idea how “copywrite-able” techniques are. Is it possible that she came up with the technique on her own? Does she in any way copy your WORDS (like, the exact way you describe how to do it)?…[Read more] -
