Thanks @laureen-marchand! This is everything pertaining to rights and copyright, I really appreciate your responses. I wanted to get an idea before I contact them directly because there has been so much churn there, that no one I ever worked with is still employed at F&W.

Hi Ana,
I've done about 5 trunk shows at LYS's so far. Here are my thoughts. You should have a wholesale price list. You set the prices that you would be happy with. My prices come out to be about 60/40 split and I make the prices clear before I do the show. It is a great benefit to the store owner. You are bringing new product to their store.…[Read more] -

Thanks so much, Karen. This is super helpful.
I'm very excited about the possibilities and to be face to face with customers. I have tried markets but they were clearly not the “right” market (farmers markets, etc), so this has to be better as the audience is the right audience. lol.
I appreciate the time you took to answer my questions so…[Read more] -

Congratulations, @grace-shalom-hopkins! That is a huge step.

Hello! Checking in for my first monthly review! January is usually super slow for me sales wise so I used it mostly for resting and planning, but I did knock off two of my mile markers! One thing that seems pretty clear to me is that I crank so hard in the studio for six months of the year that it is a welcome relief to take a long break from…[Read more]

I totally filed my taxes, paid the taxes and didn't die.
No kidding 5 years in business and I finally got the balls to make enough money to pay taxes. O.o

We got the Knitcrate order shipped today. Five 20″x20″x20″ boxes out the door. The studio actually seems kind of spacious now that they're gone!

I'm not a copyright lawyer but I do have some knowledge of the subject. But never take my word or anyone else's over a lawyer's on copyright interpretation!
I think what the contract says is that you've assigned all copyrights in the artwork to the publisher, but you retain ownership of the work itself. As part of ownership you can publish the…[Read more]

Adding to Corrina's suggestion of a police officer friend that just might be having coffee at the same time, I'm going to suggest getting to your meeting place early (or call them the day before, even) and telling the management there that you are about to have a business meeting that you're worried might not go well (which is why you're having it…[Read more]

My monthly review went better than I expected!
I had close to double the modest sales number I had picked based on last year's numbers (I've only been at this for a year, so last year's numbers weren't much!). Most of this was from a special event I ran for one of the groups I'm very active in on Ravelry, so it brought a number of first-time…[Read more]

I've done only one trunk show so my answers are based on that single experience. But I will say that overall, my trunk show experience was extremely positive and I'd happily try another one.
1. What is a typical trunk show like? Is it like having a vendor table but in the yarn shop?
At the LYS where I did my trunk show, their usual setup is to…[Read more] -

I'm a dyer and sell mostly on Etsy. I have done a limited amount of wholesale but prefer not to do it because I'm a small batch / small production dyer and it's just not profitable for me yet.
However, I have recently been approached by a few LYS's about doing a trunk show if I wasn't interested in wholesale at this time. (they asked for…[Read more]

I use YNAB like @joeli-kelly for my personal budget, and then transfer everything daily to a spreadsheet to track things for business purposes (like the monthly reviews for Starship).
Since I generally don't have a ton of deductible receipts, I save just those in an email folder and physical folder, and go through them once a year for taxes –…[Read more]

I do my financials once a week (usually on a Friday) This way nothing gets lost in the shuffle. The fact that everything connects with the bank is helpful, but if I wait to do it monthly I forget what belongs to what and how to break it out in categories for taxes.
I know what you mean about all the emails. I keep only the actual receipt.…[Read more]
