Hi everyone. I am trying to make sense of everything so I don't have answers. One of our own, Vanessa aka survivalorgans has passed away. You can find her obit here http://m.startribune.com/obituaries/detail/124280/?fullname=vanessa-%28gulin%29-laven
I don't know if you knew Vanessa a lot, a little or not at all, but she leaves a devastated…[Read more]

Congrats @tanja-osswald! It is a gorgeous pattern! I am going to link to it in my newsletter this week if that is OK?

I've already decided to drop the silk fiber once it's sold out. It's a total pain in the ass to dye. I emailed my reps with a list of the price increases effective April 1, and told the to let their customers know the silk top is limited and I won't be ordering more.
I think I may have to drop most if not all of the fiber eventually, which just…[Read more]

Hello. I am just dipping into the world of wholesale with my stitch markers. I was contacted by a LYS that would like me to make 150 sets of customized sheep markers to coordinate with their logo. The customization is slight so creating them is no an issue. We are in the first part of talking about this project so nothing is concrete yet at…[Read more]

Tanja has great thoughts. Some different ideas I've come up with:
1.) Consider eliminating fiber – even if temporarily. Prices have skyrocketed and for me this is a product that takes more hands on time than yarn and customers want to pay substantially less for. On my end, I have several fiber products with are the same price as the corresponding…[Read more]

Not totally off topic, but Riin I think you could market the local/US aspect to nice effect. It seems to me that a lot of money is left on the table because people don't talk about it.

Patti, My mom who is definitely an upholder/obliger used to get us to do stuff by saying “would you do the honor of ???”. I ended up using it with my husband to great effect. Thankfully he is not a rebel. I cannot imagine the battles if he were!

Thanks so much for your reply Jill! Any other rebels want to chime in? I have developed a really strong habit/practice of studio time (something I never thought I could do) because once the only rule is no technology. The freedom to make something good/bad/or just read vintage magazines has given me the space I need. So I am very productive, just…[Read more]

As I see it, the situation is that she wants something from you. You are not bound to invest anymore of your time and products in her.
I'd still advice to phone her to get clear on what the issue is, exactly. But that's more about the emotional side.
Business-wise: If she does not communicate with you, you are free to schedule your time for more…[Read more] -

Yay! I need this so much!
I also need to schedule time for writing my emails, not just thinking them in my head and not sending them.

Update – so I calmed down and sent a really nice email covering her concerns from her previous 4 emails and ending with a pleasant but firm statement about my pricing. To the effect of:
Since we've not yet had a chance to chat about my in-person trunk show pricing, please be aware that my rate is $100 per full day (6-8) event, plus travel or…[Read more]

You already have employees – maybe one of them enjoys teaching? That would generate less direct income for you, since she is primarily paid, but you can agree on a 10-20% cut of the fees for you. Plus, if they learned things at your place, they are bound to be more loyal to you and buy your yarns.
Like, after each class, you can have an hour with…[Read more] -

I was just gonna suggest you get in touch with Betty Salpekar – I saw her Solefull Socks in person and it was a very nice quality. But it looks the foreword is by Cat Bordhi, so I would guess it was that group. I have also seen Hunter's books in person and they are amazing quality.
I'm stuck in a bit of hell with my 2nd book and wishing I hadn't…[Read more]
