Just published my first self-published book in the last few months. It officially releases next week. I used IngramSpark for printing. Not sure what else I have to say at the moment, but I'll try to remember to come back to this thread after the book releases and after EYF next week. 🙂

I'm in for hats for Henry and Paul for next winter.
Making them with a Starship Captains yarn would be great but I could also work with stash. I can work in any yarn weight but since they live in a harsh winter area I'm thinking a yarn worsted to chunky weight would work best unless I hold the smaller weight yarns together. I'm in Canada and…[Read more]

It is so nice to hear all of this! I am not sure what I am but I resist anything that I HAVE to or SHOULD do. Even things that I want to do. I am getting better though.
I am with Jill about a planner. Over the years, I would spend a bunch on planners, journals, calendars, whatever I thought would work. I brought them home and used them for…[Read more]

Hey Lisa, I would be happy to send some stitch or progress markers to you. Can you tell me how many are attending. I thought you said 8 but wanted to make sure!

Good insight Tara. From a Rebel who spends way too much time on shoulds.

I heartily endorse Joeli's list! As a Questioner, my answer for things I don't want to do/or even WANT to do but are resisting is always: Find the reason I DO want to do this. Impressing myself, becoming the Kind of Person I want to be, living in a comfortable home (ie, making enough money to buy a couch, or a better pillow, or things that are…[Read more]

Thank you, @penny-shima-glanz + @jill-wolcott + @ruth-garcia-alcantud for pulling together a plan to our general mourning. Honestly, I just haven't been able to think it through (I think there's a bit of avoidance going on, because, well, a lot of the details just strike very close to home), and I'm so grateful that you have.
I give you my full…[Read more]

I've funded a few knitting books on Kickstarter and have always been happy with it (as a funder).
I tend to fund things where to the “gift” is the thing I'm funding – so I will fund you if I can get a copy of your book! For add-ons (higher amounts), you can add on project bags, kits (partner with a yarnie who's willing to give you wholesale…[Read more] -

Ruth, you and I are on the very same page. I was approached last year by F+W too. They really wanted my book idea (based on one of the classes I teach and is extremely popular) By this time I had been working a lot with Melissa Leapman as my industry mentor. She told me before I even put a book proposal in front of them to ask questions about…[Read more]

Ruth, This is SUCH a much needed topic that needs to be addressed!
I am an experienced designer and there are so many things that I wish I had known. I sold my first design in December of 1998 to Annie's Magazine Crochet to Go. Even though I had a mentor (Anyone recognize the name Terry Kimbrough of Leisure Arts Fame in Knit and Crochet?) and I…[Read more]
