I wrote an e-course for small business owners who have hit the point where they can't do any more on their own, and they've realized they might need to hire a VA.
Please help me share it with any of your small-biz owning friends!
It's called Get Some Help: How to Hire Your First VA
The course is here: https://gumroad.com/l/VKQn
Thanks, everyone!!

Are you planning to publish a printed book or a digital book?
For printed textbooks, two or three columns might be nice (depending on the size of the page), for digial books, I'd prefer one column, so it is nicer to scroll through it.
As well, in a digital book, lots of white space is great because it makes things easier to see. In a printed book,…[Read more] -

Hey all, I thought I should post this here in case people who weren't in chat last week could help spread the link– my annual Pi Day fiber pies are available to order through the end of tomorrow (3/14– pi day!) If any of you are spinners or know spinners (or know people who know spinners, even) and can share on social media before the end of…[Read more]

I have my 2015 tax prep finished – now all it needs is to be finalized by my accountant (which in the past has been an easy 40 minute appointment where she does all the work.) My numbers all looked good, and I got to finish my tax prep day with a beer and Idaho nachos. yay! I always feel so much better when my taxes are finished up – like I've…[Read more]

I buy and read most books digitally even when there is a hard copy version. I've had an e-reader for so long it seems odd to read a normal book.
I prefer one column per page with white space. If it's purpose is part workbook and I'll be printing out portions then I'd prefer a margin large enough that those portions can be hole-punched and put in…[Read more]

Hi all- I'm thinking of hosting a live paid webinar, and need suggestions on a Webinar platform. What have you used in the past, and what are the pros/cons?

Yay, @patricia-robinson! I'm doing the happy dance for you!
You are networking, you are learning new stuff – and you are enjoying yourself!
And by that, you give your Right People a chance to meet you, get to know you and buy your art. I think that is a pretty straight way to making money. -

Seems like I'll be two books to be published in autumn, one with my traditional publisher, one self-published with an indie dyer who does knitting designs.
One thing to add about layout: I use TeX, like for my single patterns. I like the polished look it has and I can use it for my slip stitch crochet charts.
TeX originally was developed to make…[Read more] -

F&W! I see a theme here. I spent some time going back and forth with them, they loved… Could I change this… On and on… Then I was told, oh you don't have a strong enough following on social media. But then came the stinger, they warned me they weren't paying much in the way of advances £2k at best, but needed to know how many THOUSAND of my…[Read more]

@grace-shalom-hopkins I think you should design the book the way it appeals to you. I like white space and probably wouldn't use a book that was cluttered, but it might not bother other people. Please put page numbers in for people who just want to print bits, pieces, or parts. I think having exercises separate is nice–although they don't have to…[Read more]

@patti-robinson This sounds like what you needed. I think you can go with it for a while, and if the need for money arises, you know what to do.

Because we are talking about self-publishing and I am working on my first mostly text book I thought this would be a great ask! 🙂
What kind of formatting do you like best in a digital book?
A plain single column kind of thing? Duel columns? Is all that fancy text box and grooviness really necessary?
I personally need to hit enter tons of…[Read more]

This is a great discussion!
As a background – I have self-published 3 books within the realm of spinning. I have 2 more fiber related books actively in the works and 3 business related books. Obviously these are not all progressing at the same rate, nor will they release at the same rate.
I got pregnant and had to put my more physically…[Read more]

I applied for and was accepted to a professional development program for artists with the goal of presenting a piece of public art on August 5th. Not a paid gig but in the arts it's important to have these kind of things regularly on the resume and an opportunity to network and be “seen”.
Taking a break from my list and expectations has been…[Read more]

Ann, I'm not so sure it is just stubbornness, although that has been how it is labeled my entire life. I think it is more a desire to set our own course, see our own way, and find our own truth.
