Whatcha working on?
I keep missing the chats which is a pain – It really helps me to consolidate what I'm actually doing and take a moment to realise how much I do. I'm going to try hard to get back to them.I've been a bit flat out. I've just released a new pattern and have another published this week.
I've also finally got a new logo…[Read more]

I think this is a great idea, as a way to answer the questions people might have about your business! But I would call the page “Resources” or “My resources”, so that it's clear that this page lists things you use in your business! And you could absolutely use actual affiliate links (where you get a percentage of sales, if they have an affiliate…[Read more]

@joeli-kelly this is how I feel about the sew alongs I do. I have this vague notion that maybe someday something will come of it but mostly it's extra work with no clear advantage in sight other than I (mostly) enjoy them.
I did get a glimpse of how it might be working recently though – I attended a yarn retreat the other weekend and three people…[Read more]

Thanks for your input, @jill-wolcott, @amy-crook and @karen-robinson!
I think I've got two goals with a link page: I can openly tell people about my yarn sponsors and I want the consultant who helped me with my business plan to link me on her page. I love browsing her collection of businesses she worked with and I want to be in that collection…[Read more]

I agree with Amy: think about the purpose, for your business, of having a page like that. If it's really more to promote other people, I personally think social media (or in a newsletter) is a better avenue to do that.
I do have a page on the Round Table Yarns website that lists patterns that specifically call for one of my yarns. Right now it's…[Read more]

Affiliate links are a specific term meaning you get a percentage of any sales (which you do have to disclose legally if you're linking as a recommendation and it's also an affiliate link).
Links pages used to be a very popular thing on people's sites, though nowadays they are less so since common marketing wisdom warns against sending people away…[Read more]

Look at you! What a great way to get some input and let your WS customers know you are thinking about them! MSRP is a slippery slope so better to stay away from it.

What a great idea! The cons might be that you are actually sending people away from your website, but if it is something people can use as a resource, I'm not sure it is a complete downside.
I don't think it is called affiliate links, but hardly my area of expertise.

Though I have a one-woman-business, I'm working with a lot of people, from yarn manufacturers to the Starship. So I'm thinking about putting a page with affiliate links on my website (are they called that? It is not links to companies who pay me for clicks, just a link to Tara's website for example).
Do you have a page with such links on your own…[Read more] -

One of my customers asked me why, if we don't sell direct to customers, do we have prices on our yarn labels? Um…because we used to sell retail… That's not a very good answer. I realized I had no idea if my wholesale customers wanted the price on the tag or not! So I did a survey. This was the question:
When we sold retail, we put labels…

I use Google Hangouts On Air (via YouTube “live events” – it's all the same thing) for our Starship/Lift Off Q+As (like the one I'm holding tomorrow, 3/15), so if you wanna see how it looks for an attendee – come by for at least a few minutes! It provides a chat room (for live participants) on the right side of the screen, but people have to be…[Read more]

tara replied to the topic Text Heavy Digital Book Formatting + Features in the forum Engineering 9 years, 4 months ago
So I know nothing about formatting, other than I really hate when a book doesn't look like a book when I'm reading the digital version. In other words, columns makes me think I'll have to move up and down the page to see it properly? I want to just read the page, flip the page. 🙂
I would LOVE a PDF of just worksheets! That'd be fantastic! (I…[Read more]

I'm excited you both thought the video sounded like a good idea! I think it would be a blast to do and help beef it up like book + course rather than just a book.
@jill-wolcott As always great advice to above all be true to my own taste in formatting! 🙂
Page numbers is a good suggestion, I probably would have forgotten about those because I…[Read more]

Thanks @joeli-kelly– I was researching Webinar Jam, but it is expensive unless I plan on doing a lot each year. Also, if I understand correctly, it's an “add-on” to Google Hangouts, correct?
The webinar I want to do is a paid webinar. So, I guess I need something that integrates with Paypal OR allows me to create a private webinar and I just…[Read more]
