Thank you to everyone for your great advice and hugs! I really appreciate it and I'm still thinking over and absorbing your words.
I've just had to put another minor flame from periscope though so I don't know. Either I'm really bad about being clear about what I'm saying or I'm just getting big enough that enough people are starting to take…[Read more]

For a full round, you increase 8 stitches per round of sc. So, for a triangle or a half circle, you increase half of that. If your stitches are higher, you need more increases. Sc are pretty much the same for all crocheters, higher stitches tend to differ more (there are lifters and riders, for example), so you best make a swatch to find out your…[Read more]

I don't design crochet, but I do know there are several good resources out there for knit design for shawls (such as the 5 Basic Shawl Shapes Cheat Sheet). Surely the same type of thing exists somewhere for crochet and someone who designs crochet can point you in the right direction.
One of the other things you can do is study other crochet…[Read more]

Hoping to design a crochet shawl. Is there any website or other info on how to do the math- how quickly to increase/decrease to get the correct shape? I want to do either a half circle or triangle. I have mostly designed afghans and home décor items- garments are a new category for me. Any designers have any tips for me?

So I'm on a push to sell my Lisse Hat and I decided to upload it to the new patterns section of the LYSO thread on Ravelry, which made me think I should send out a wholesale newsletter too. It is done in dk/fingering yarn and I know a lot of you do that weight of yarn, so if you'd like to know more, you can find it here! Pattern is available on…[Read more]

Ana – that's why I mentioned it. I've learned the hard way! I think getting as close as possible, and naming the same is great. Keep your dye recipe and be prepared to dye more if that's at all possible with your process.
The number of colors is up to you. Designers often charge more if they need to make more than one sample. However, sometimes…[Read more]

Thanks so much for this advice. It's not something I would have thought of.
There's a first time for everything and I'll make specific colourways for this project. They won't be identical but I can make them fairly close (ish)? I'll even name them! Another first.
How many different colourways should I offer?
I appreciate your comment. Thank you! ☺ -

Here are a couple of ideas after having tax chats with my hubby/tax accountant this week:
1.) Consider saving a couple hundred dollars and sit down with a tax accountant to go through your taxes. If you're filing yourself but don't know where to categorize your withholding and insurance payments (or other items), it's possible that everything…[Read more]

Ana – I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I would highly suggest that if you're having a design done in your yarns that you make it a repeatable color. (Or as close to repeatable as possible.) In my experience, designs drive sales for the shown yarn – if a customer can't get the color shown it often creates customer frustration…[Read more]
