Whatcha workin on?
Lots of small things. I'm writing a blog series about my book fair experience. I dealt with some organizatorical stuff.
Also, I'm almost finished with crocheting a lace shawl and when I've pinned that, I should get an overview over the patterns I'll finish next. Maybe really just make a list and tick off one item a…[Read more] -

Hi Riin,
Yes we have a non-smoking household, but we do have 2 dogs and 3 cats. Will that bother you? We have a hepa filter that we run in the guest room when Bill's family comes over since they are allergic to cats. I'm not sure that it would be the best choice to stay the entire show here, because we about about an hour North of DC. And you…[Read more]

Thanks again, Katie. Yes, this is my first go at this type of project. I'm delighted and a little overwhelmed with response. Everyone here is amazing. 🙂
It's going to be weird doing an actual colourway, I have to admit. My “thing” is that my gradients are all made one at a time and each slightly different even for the ones that do look a…[Read more]

@joeli-kelly Just now seeing this after EYF/book life is calming down. I don't have any advise, but wanted to give you a big hug (and I'm so happy I got to see you at EYF!!!!). Reading through this thread, I am reminded though of something I was told as our podcast/my design stuff has garnered more attention, and that is, you must be doing…[Read more]

Hi Ana!
I would be happy to discuss this with you, I am a knitwear designer, and I love working with Gradients. I've done a few projects with KnitCircus Yarns, The Fiber Seed's Gradient pack, and I am currently finishing up a really cool project for Lorna's Laces that features their new String Quartets. If you would like to check out my work, you…[Read more] -

Hello!
I just joined the Starship last week, and am just now starting to get my bearings. My name is Jessica, but I usually go by Mom, MaMa, Mommy, or some variation, lol. I have 5 kiddos, from 10 years old to the baby, who is 22 months old (I'm not quite ready to admit that he isn't a Baby/baby anymore….). I have one very supportive husband…[Read more]

Okay, that is a relief. So my advice boils down to: Don't ever address those messages on the scopes – or if you ever have to, find a very positive, clear and non-puzzling way to do so.
And in dealing with such messages, you'll find your own templates for telling them that you did not say X in a friendly way that does not get you involved emotionally. -

@tanja-osswald oh nothing ever happens on the scopes themselves! They are lovely and supportive and a good chat. It's been after that someone will message me and say “I'm not happy you said X” when I absolutely did not say X.

Knit stitches are all roughly the same height, for a crochet cheat sheet, you'd need one for each kind of stitch – and things will change again when you start mixing stitches…
You can copy the increase lines from the knit sheet but you have to find out how many increases you need by swatching. -

Thank you both! I was looking for something like the 5 basic shawl shapes cheat sheet, but for crochet. My design will be a specific lace design. I guess I'll just start swatching and see what I can come up with.

@joeli-kelly, great that you are realizing that your speech patterns give a wrong impression (I did not watch your periscopes, I just read what you wrote here). Once you realize the issue, you can opt to change it.
One thing that I realized in the crochet forum I administer: Bad vibes are usually something between two or three people. So, if you…[Read more]
