I would vote for a less leafy plant–it is kind of distracting. Also, if you could do a gray background to show off the piece?

For scale, I really love the corner of the couch peeking into the frame. It really gives that “this is a large art piece you can put in a room” feel. And of course you want interesting but not TOO interesting — maybe a one-color throw pillow? I actually love the plant, but not how it seems to be fighting with the sculpture, so I'll reiterate my…[Read more]

Thank you, @kimberley-bridgwater! I do have an index card for each pattern (with all to-dos on it to check off) but they are all in a stack and working off the one on top does not work well currently.

I'm looking for suggestions for props and set up ideas for a photo shoot area where the natural light is best: in my living room. My goal: have a place easy to setup/take down, where I can hang my latest creations and take a photo that gives people an idea of:
1. what the piece looks like
2. the scale of the piece
3. how they can display in…[Read more] -

Tara,
Deciding on classes for CGOA conference. Is your Professional development session going to be similar to Wrangle Your Time? Not sure whether or not to take it- will it be info we already learned in Starship or is there new material in the class??? -

Whatcha workin on?
Getting ready for a letter-writing challenge on my blog and Instagram for the month of April which means prepping posts/photographing/et al. I'm excited about this since challenges tend to feel more community-like to me than merely writing posts. (They also give a nice focus for the month. :)) Along with that, I'm working on…[Read more] -

@tanja-osswald, I love your idea of a check off list of in progress/upcoming designs!
I think I'm going to do the same, then sort them by how much is left to do. Then do them! I have way too many designs on the go that need to get published. They don't make money sitting in a file in Apple ios Pages or a pile of unwritten samples!
I'm glad the…[Read more]

I am not in the US, so I am not sure how relevant to your situation my experience is, but I don't currently have insurance specific to my business. I am a knitwear designer and do not insure the ‘tools of my trade' separately. I do have a $2mm blanket liability insurance rider on my property insurance. The idea is that if I am financially…[Read more]

Welcome, @jennifer609772, both to the Starship and to this thread. I don't think this thread is limited to books about knitting–we just have quite a few Starship captains who are in that industry–so absolutely you should post here!

I'm new to the Starship and just saw this thread so I thought I'd hop on board to learn from everyone. 🙂 I'm self-publishing a workbook this August (that's the goal, anyway) about taking/creating your own personal retreats throughout the year. It's obviously not knit/crochet-related specifically so hopefully it's okay for me to mention my…[Read more]

Whatcha working on?
Enjoying a lot of focus. What’s going well / on?
I have been making lists of things I want to do each day as well as usually doing a schedule. I don’t usually follow the schedule well, but Iseem to get everything done, so I think the act of creating the schedule solidifies my daily goals.
Because I am off from teaching I’m…[Read more]

I just got my policy renewal for my business insurance policy, and I'm wondering if I could do better. The annual premium is $964. Fortunately they bill me monthly so I don't have to pay it all at once, but still. How much do you guys pay? And if you pay a lot less, can you tell me how/where/etc.?

what's going well? I'm chipping away at all the things. Settling into life with no routine this week (E's working at home because his business partner is away) easier than I expected.
what are you working on? Trying to finish up client work so I can focus on everything else. I need to actually work on Craft Your Marketing (CYM) and am sketching…[Read more]

I just wanted to post that I'm now OK for pairing up with possible designers on my first project(s) of collaboration of design/yarn.
Thanks so much everyone!! But if there's any more advice/knowledge/experience that anyone wants to share it's all appreciated, whether it's something I want to hear or not! lol. You guys are the best. Thank you.
