Oh Joeli, big huge hugs and, for that other woman, a whack across the derriere! Too many people know you, are familiar with you through your posts and…they LOVE you. So, I think we can all agree that this is what C.C. said: you're getting popular. Everybody had great advice that I totally agree with. The one thing I would add is from my…[Read more]

Ironically I just found this post in my inbox regarding creative blocks: http://www.createandthrive.com/how-to-overcome-a-creative-block
My practice right now is to do something mindless for a while, read a book (not about business) or check Instagram or Twitter. After a bit of these I'm usually able to do at least a few to dos.

Tanja Osswald started the topic Tracking Systems for Pattern Writers in the forum Engineering 9 years, 2 months ago
In the check-in thread, we started a discussion on how to best track patterns (or any smallish multiple projects you might work on). Here are some questions to get the discussion going:
– Do you have a fixed time frame for new pattern releases (one every other day, one per month)?
– Are you a one-pattern at a time person? If you, how do you make…[Read more] -

@tanja-osswald I would love a thread on Tracking systems. I use evernote, but I would love to see what others do!

@tanja-osswald, I design several at a time. I don't even know how many I have on the go right now never mind how far they are in the process. Having a tracking system will hopefully improve efficiency and consistency of releases.

I'm going to settle into being a cheerleader for movement. Before anyone rolls their eyes too much, I should tell you that I didn't start running until I was 54. I started doing Pilates in 2004. Prior to that I was a walker, but that was it. I like Pilates, but it is expensive and you have to drag yourself somewhere to do it. I needed to add…[Read more]

Working on: Dyeing lots of yarn in preparation for a fiber fest coming up in just over a week.
Going well: I have my list of yarn to dye, with number of skeins for each color, and I'm steadily crossing things off the list. I've used partial lists here and there for other shows, but this is the first time I've really sat down and thought about how…[Read more]

I didn't say much about this in chat, but to get moving I walk (hopefully run soon) on the treadmill. I am a severe reactive asthmatic so I am ordered not to exercise outdoors in the fall / winter / spring. However, just this morning I got stitches removed from my left leg after a biopsy (nothing serious thank goodness! just a bug bite that…[Read more]

Ok, we talked about it during chat today….having a meet up of the North Carolina area captains.
Can we pull this off? Maybe for a late-ish lunch…giving everyone time to travel.
Krista is in Winston Salem. Christie in Chapel Hill. I'm in Saluda between Asheville and Spartanburg. Tara is in Johnson City, north of Asheville.
We could meet…[Read more]

One card for each pattern works well most of the time – just not when I'm juggling more than five patterns at once, like now.
It really is not hard to make or maintain: Just list every to-do you have for the pattern until it is published and mark things off as soon as they are done.
Since my patterns go out to other people (for proofreading and…[Read more] -

I'm not even that organized with mine, @tanja-osswald! I really need to set up a “new design system”. Not having one at all isn't working!

Inspired by today's SS chat! A number of Captains expressed interest in a thread where we can encourage each other to get in some physical movement while getting ourselves out of mental quicksand as well. Chime in with what kind of movement you're doing and how it helps, and swing by when you're feeling overwhelmed and need a hug or a gentle push…[Read more]

Hi all!
I am working on a self published book (to be released in March -April 2017 with pre orders in February) and I am looking for hand dyers interested in yarn support.
Specifically, I am looking for Lace weight and Fingering weight yarns. If you are a yarn dyer and would like to colaborate, let me know at karen@karenwhooley.com or just note…[Read more]
