I am old-school, so I keep a printout of this tracker in my business planner. It has all the self-publishing patterns in my release queue as well as the rights reversions I am planning to reformat and release this year. I think I have added ‘projected release date' to the one I have printed in my planner.

There is the subway system. The closest station is about 30 minutes south of here on the weekends. Let me look how far the station is from the convention center. That would be workable.

Hi Karen,
I have several fingering weight bases. I have a farm yarn that is a 3 ply wool/alpaca with 470 yards per skein. It has a heathery appearence and can be dyed whatever color you are looking for. I also have a couple of commercial fingering weight “sock yarns” that are superwash. One tends towards the lace weight and the other is a little…[Read more]

I'd love to meet too. I'm helping Riin on Friday. I hadn't decided which day I was going to come down to visit the show. I'll make that determination when we decide when dinner is. I can do any of the days.

Hi Toni,
I will be there as I am part of the committee. I also have a booth for my yarn company, Flying Goat Farm. We are in the main building so come by and say hi if I don't meet you before the festival. You should think about finding a room soon. -

I have tried uploading it to google drive. Technology is not my best thing. It is an excel file, so some formatting may be lost in translation – hope the link works.

I have been taking this as part of LiftOff. It is an excellent course. I have completed up to chapter six. It changed my perspective (and the way I describe my business to the world) in really positive ways.

Elaine Vandiver replied to the topic How much do you pay for business insurance? in the forum Engineering 9 years ago
My policy last year ran just under $700. This year I added a rider to allow for onsite camping/outbuilding B&B in addition to my standard liability for farm visitors; new the premium is just under $900. I will say it took me quite a while to find a policy provider…which is odd as I'm in a rural, agriculture-focused area with a lot of other…[Read more]

Toni Carringer replied to the topic Giving Facebook ads tomorrow! in the forum Engineering 9 years ago
I have learned a lot for facebook ads over the past few months following Kim Garst from Social Boom. She gives a lot of free smart information on how to market using FB (and variety of other social media) and what ways are the most beneficial.
I think what I've personally learned is you need to create a audience for your ad that encompasses…[Read more]

I'm a new captain and started Charting my Stars this past week and like @isabel-mckay it was a challenge and really digging deep into my emotional and visual thoughts and kept thinking how will I review this in 12 months.
I did really enjoyed creating the mind maps.
So, for the next 12 months my north stars are Compassion (my word of the year),…[Read more]

Here are my answers:
– Do you have a fixed time frame for new pattern releases (one every other day, one per month)?
I'd like to release at least four patterns a month but it differs wildly.
– Are you a one-pattern at a time person? If you, how do you make that work?
Nope, not even when I started designing and writing up patterns. I'm alw…[Read more]

Good points, @veronique-vieillard-baron!
I think as designers we are in the happy position that we can test the waters before we publish a book. We can publish single patterns and develop our style. We don't have to learn how to write patterns with the first book, we usually already know how to and have practiced for years.
And then -…[Read more] -

It's a very interesting thread !
So much frustrations about traditional publishers. It's a pity they are so afraid to publish a book that could be a flop. Because you never know. When it comes to sales, there is four categories of books:very few books skyrocket. It's Harry Potter, the 4 hours week (that was rejected by a lot of publishers),…[Read more]
