This lesson was really insightful, especially the worksheets about my products. I went in and changed a portion of the description for one of my products after I realized the language I was using was undervaluing it unintentionally. I've rewritten my ‘boil it down' portion several times b/c the second sentence isn't saying exactly what I'm trying…[Read more]

Thank you @amy-crook!
That's what I thought, but I still worry that they could try to make trouble…Since you can actually see that the mechanism is different from the pictures that do exist & if they have a patent & they went through that process then they should already know that…
So why are they contacting me? -

@karen-whooley I've sold half the number of eBooks only versus the number of actual physical books (which includes the eBook) I've sold. And then I've sold half the number of single patterns from the book versus the number of eBooks only. I've actually been surprised by the number of single patterns sold. Hope that's helpful.

Also thankful that I had just finished my walk & started thinking about “What's going well?” etc for chat. Both of those things helped me to be in a better frame of mind to be able to deal with it/talk about it. I think if this had happened on any other day I would have completely shut down & not been able to talk about it at all.
I allowed myself…[Read more] -

This is something I can actually answer, as I used to date someone who works in the patent office: if the actual mechanism is not the same, then their patent absolutely does not apply. Patents are for the mechanics, so an object that does the same thing in a different way does NOT infringe on their patent.

Thank you everyone for helping me get through my initial panic!
Here's some extra info:
They do have a US patent.
They're in the US, I'm in Canada.
I made the first ring around 8-10 months before they got their patent, discovered them ~3 months after I made the first one.
Some of the Differences:
The actual mechanism for how they work.
Material.…[Read more] -
Angelia Robinson replied to the topic How much do you pay for business insurance? in the forum Engineering 9 years, 2 months ago
@karen-lepage, the liability insurance covers me if I'm sued by a student who gets hurt in class or accuses me of “untoward” behavior. Keep in mind that I am mainly teaching kids. Some of my students use charter school funds to pay for their classes, and these schools require service vendors such as myself to carry this kind of insurance. But…[Read more]

So I ran today and Sunday. Skipped Friday because I tweaked my back–reaching for a pen to write something down in the middle of the night. Seriously.
I so relate to all the turmoil around direction, creativity, productivity, etc. So don't stop talking!

@karen-whooley I wasn't sure this was worthy of a thread. I'd be happy to talk collaboration on selling Craftsy classes. I know the Liaisons sent out the dates for the upcoming sales. April: Thurs, 4/21 – Sat, 4/23, May: Thurs, 5/12 – Sun, 5/15, and June: Sat, 6/25 – Mon, 6/27. All are tentative, but let's talk about doing something around those.

Yes, @kristan-macintyre I think you are okay. They just do this stuff to frighten people. As Lynn says–it is a thing. I think a polite reply as suggested is all you need to do. No lawyer. Maybe a glass of wine.

I think if they didn't send you a letter from their lawyer, you should not waste time on one yourself. Just a sense of “your product can't serve my audience, no need to worry, have a great life,” should do it.
My father in law looked into patenting the bass that he developed and I play. You have to submit tech drawings with measurements and…[Read more]
