Elaine, What about doing a yarn butterfly or flower (flat) that someone could pin on their lapel or put on a bag or something like that? It would be great for people who don't knit/crochet. It would also take less yarn.

I have been MIA for a while. Working a day job while building my business leaves me little time to stay connected. But I'm happy to report that things are going really well. I need to revisit my map and mile markers, but I feel like the direction I am going is a solid one.
So far, I've reached several major milestones (since making my map in…[Read more]

@kathi-snodgrass, last quarter I had the goal to publish 12 patterns and made each publication a mile marker. When I checked them off, I added the name of the pattern.
This quarter, I'll work on a bunch of patterns in parallel, so my mile markers are like “all samples crocheted”, “all pattern drafts written”, “all patterns send to testing”…[Read more] -

Thank you, @karen-whooley and @karen-robinson! Teaching different kinds of classes is a good idea. I'll mull about this some more.

Here's a way to think about it: these two shops exist in the same area. Are they both doing okay? If so, then obviously there is room for both of them. So why is that? Do they attract the same customers? Perhaps there is some crossover, but it's highly likely that there's something one shop does really well and someone else the other shop does…[Read more]

Awesome job – as Tara said today – you keep trying even if it looks like a failure.
YOU DID IT!! that is SUCCESS -

Agreed, let's do this!
I'm suggesting Saturday May 14th OR Saturday May 21 OR Saturday May 28. Let me know if any of those dates work.
I'm thinking that since where I am is kinda halfway between those further east in North Carolina and those in Tennessee…and apparently Krista will be camping on our deck…we could meet here. I can do something…[Read more]

@tanja-osswald – I do this all the time. Teach different classes at each one. Or if you do regular classes at one shop, maybe do special classes at the other … like a weekend event.

CreativeLive has some IG marketing classes by Sue B. Zimmerman and Pei Ketron, too. I haven't taken those courses specifically, but I do love me some CreativeLive. 😉

Working on my map, getting my head around it. I went out to supper with my mom last night for her birthday and described this whole Starship thing to her (and the rather circular route I took to find it) and she's pretty intrigued. And at 46 years old, it's kind of cool to have your 72-year-old mom get excited about something you're doing. 🙂

@kathi-snodgrass, I think you should do it as it makes sense to you. I do complex garment patterns, so it doesn't make much sense to do them as a group. I slog through each one over months! But that is just my stuff. This time, I have three patterns that I want to relaunch. I am lumping them together into one Mile Marker: Update three patterns:…[Read more]

I think its smart to repurpose content on all the platforms as there are different eyes in all the places but I think its worth taking a couple of extra steps to tweak the content so it works for each one individually. For example instead of just tweeting an Instagram post you can go into Twitter, post the same photo and edit your original caption…[Read more]

Knit pattern designers – do you have each pattern as a mile marker or a number of them as mile markers? My goal is to publish more patterns.

I'm a crochet designer and mainly sell patterns but I do like to teach crochet and thus, have taught in my home town, at yarn festivals and at a nearby LYS (= local yarn store).
Now, I got approached from another LYS owner in the same city (even in the same quarter of the city) who is searching for a crochet teacher. So far, we have not fixed…[Read more] -

@karen-robinson doesn't it help to know people like it? I've found out a couple of people I know socially follow me because they just like what I write! Makes it easier to face that task.
