Thank you, @karen-robinson! Actually, when reading through those linked pages, I feel like a fixed layout is absolutely not what I want. So I'm puzzled. What I love about my Kindle is that I can zoom in and have the text as big as I want. I have not found anything yet on how zooming works with pictures but it sounded like a fixed layout would mean…[Read more]

I don't really think that ePub is the appropriate file type for craft books that are image and layout heavy, but in looking into this question, I see people talking about “fixed layout ePubs.” Here are some references that discuss this issue:

When to Use ePub

I'm in the middle of contract negotiations for my next book. The sore point lies with electronic rights. I'm not convinced that publishing the book electronically won't diminish the quality. Like, I just have an old kindle and that shows every picture pixelated and in black and white and you cannot zoom.
My publisher mentioned the ePub format. I…[Read more] -

Good luck with this!!! i think it will be wonderful. I agree to keep it small when just starting. I'm thinking about this sort of stuff, (but im not actually there yet), and this discussion gives me a lot to think about. So, thanks for that.

What a pain Linda. I think ditto for all of the above. I'm sure it will work out okay. OR as Tanja said -with a stronger relationship with your customers. Big hugs. (no, no, no, to giving up).

I think the universe decided I'd had enough internet work for a while…my wifi went down for about two hours. 😛

@linda-tieu, Tanja is so good at sorting it out. Likely no one noticed, or were able to adjust, but I do think reaching out is a good practice. Make them feel special. It sounds like the sort of thing I might sign up for, but only use periodically.

@barbara-kish I think you had a great technology day! Finding someone to help is awesome! I love my computer. I just hate all the stuff I don't know and have to figure out.

@barbara-kish, I say Yay. I love unique yarns dyed by skilled dyers. Why not have something fabulous for the effort–as the dyer–and as the end user. I had a dyeing experiment this weekend, and I am so NOT interested in dyeing. It has refreshed my admiration for those of you who do it. I'd love to see your work when you have the new bases. I'm…[Read more]

@jill-wolcott, I'd thought about saying something along those lines, too…”there's big changes afoot!” sort of thing. The invitation to sign up for my email list hints at that too (and I think my “gift” for signing up will be free shipping on…some variation of your order, I haven't gotten that far yet-maybe on your first purchase of a new base?…[Read more]

AND after I went wailing to another group of friends (many of whom would end up getting this out-of-nowhere email from me), one said that she uses MailChimp extensively for work and would be happy to help in any way she could. ::cue angels singing::

@linda-tieu, *hugs*. What a mess!
I have no idea about the technology side of this but maybe it helps if I tell you how I'd see it as a customer:
First, I like it when businesses are honest. You are not a multi-national company, so I can accept issues like this hindering things – as long as you talk about them.
Putting all stuff up for free is…[Read more] -

P.S. One thing I do love? Putting my ChromeBook and my MacBook side by side to do inventory or online classes where you want to follow along (like Lightroom) or whatever. I like it so much better than toggling back and forth between screens. One source open on one machine, another on the other.

Thanks, @jill-wolcott! We did get the Big Cartel thing fixed, once I started sending screen shots. What a relief. Now I can start changing everything to http://www.spencerhillyarn.com, which is a whole lot less clunky than spencerhillspinninganddyeing.
And as far as MailChimp goes, welllll…I'm going to decide that getting the list (even if I did it…[Read more]

@barbara-kish, I am not salesperson, so I might be completely off base with this. You seem like a kind of cut to the chase sort of person, so I think being forthright would be the best thing to do. Post a photo with a caption that says, “selling this so I can shift bases; these prices are one-time only!” or something like that. Maybe give a color…[Read more]

@corrina-fergeson and @kathi-snodgrass, I have done online (IRT) Illustrator classes in the past. What exactly are you wanting to learn. My knowledge is fashion business/knitwear so I can do fairly targeted teaching.

@barbara-kish, I am not the best at this stuff, but I did check in today, so I may be all you get. I think your Wanna sign up has to go out as a campaign, to all the folks on your list.
I feel you about technology. I am actually not as big a dunce as I feel sometimes. I tend to talk a different language though, and the mysteries of my cell phone…[Read more]

Dragging this thread out of February for a GAAAH and a ????
I was so proud of myself this morning for getting the emails I have in Big Cartel and PayPal into a spreadsheet, and imported into MailChimp (I've been avoiding it). Planned to use it to send out an invitation to sign up for my newsletter. Apparently I've done this backwards, or I can't…[Read more]
