Yay! @elaine-vandiver, as I read this, I kept thinking about how hard physically it would be. Good job!

Shearing was this weekend. Although we hire the shearer, we do shear the animal standing up (versus bound and on the ground) so this means someone has to catch the fleece. Catching the fleece basically requires the catcher to be on their knees or in the squat position (or both) while moving around the animal and the shearer, attempting not to…[Read more]

My technique explanations are actually little photo stories. So you'd have to click each photo separately and click back for the text, as well?

Yes, @tanja-osswald, once zoomed the text is no longer visible. It is impractical but would work if the photo is a chart repeat or a technique photo you just need to see on its own. Now if the necessary text was actually part of the photo it might work, as in a technique photo with the instructions added to the photo. But I can't see a publisher…[Read more]

Thanks, @kimberley-bridgwater, that is very helpful! So, once you are into the zooming mode, you cannot see any of the text? Is that as impractical as it seems to me?

And once zoomed:
Eta-apparently I was too quick to post the first message and you can only add one photo at a time.

Ok that didn't work. Let's try again.

I'm including a few example photos. If I just zoom in the app it adjusts text size but not the photos but if I double tap a photo it opens it up and I can zoom or un zoom as needed.

I meant exactly what @kimberley-bridgwater said about pictures not being seen or the page itself doesn't look right. When the pictures are there, they arent always in the right place. They tend to be unprofessional looking.
Again, this is just kindle but I can tell you one book nparticular that was horrible was the Crochet Master Class.…[Read more]

@karen-whooley, what do you mean by “removing layout”? That the page does not look like in the printed book? That would actually be an asset, if it means that I can zoom in both to text and pictures without having to start scrolling left and right.
Thanks for your answer, @kimberley-bridgwater! How do pictures work on your iPad? Is your page like…[Read more]

I have a Kobo e-reader. It reads ePub files. I have bought .epub craft books through http://kobobooks.com. I had issues with the photos in the books; some didn't show at all (Kobobooks blamed the publisher's settings) and some once zoomed in were difficult to maneuver. My Kobo is a few generations old so this may have been resolved in newer…[Read more]

EPub in my experience has issues with zoom, and it removes a whole lot of layout. It is an Adobe product too that forces certain security measures in some cases that really are hard to deal with if you have a Kindle. Any book I have received in ePub format, I can only view well on my desktop computer.
Any other format allows for zoom (My Sock…[Read more]

Thanks for your answer, @karen-whooley!
Can you tell me why you would not allow ePub? The publisher meant ePub; we had been discussing formats (which meant layout for me, and kind of file for her…).
Do you have ever seen an ebook craft book that was good to read? What features did it have, layout-wise?
With your Crochet rocks socks book, can…[Read more] -

@tanja-osswald, Make sure that when they say “ePub”, that they actually mean ePub. I have found many people substitute “ePub” and “eBook” interchangeably.
If they truly mean ONLY ePub then I would fight to the death not allowing that.
If they mean eBook, then find out all of the formats that they plan to use. I have my Crochet rocks socks set…[Read more]
