Happy Birthday week Tara!
what are you working on? Surviving working at home while they install a new roof (E's at home too. We're both a little cranky — how he's managing all his conference calls is beyond me!). I think once all the old shingles get off it'll be better. (We're already on day two and do NOT have a large house/roof). In business…[Read more]

Whatcha workin on?
I am going to just make a confession here.I might not like my business any more.
The only thing I love about making my pillows is the customer's reaction when they get it.
I am swamped with pillow orders – which is GREAT! I was able to pay of my 15K embroidery machine 6 months ahead of schedule.
But … it feels like I have…[Read more] -

Whatcha workin on?
Working on my book. It is much more fun to crochet new critters than to finish the patterns… On Monday, I made a list of which critter pattern is in which stage and feel less overwhelmed now. Still, I got the odd seizure of “Oh my! The book's deadline is in one month! I don't even know how many critters I need!”
Besides, I…[Read more] -

I'm getting caught up while also dealing with a young and slightly flaky new roommate, ack! She is adding so much stress to an already stressful situation, sigh.
So while ambitious me wants to go for the huge, difficult number goal, the part of me that wants to curl up in a corner and gibber is pretty much all for a strategy goal. Also, I broke…[Read more]

@mary-roth I completely understand this conundrum! I can't say that I've vanquished it completely, but I can tell you that by favoring action over perfection, I've increased my productivity by leaps and bounds over the years without adding any additional space. My business shares 1400 sq feet with myself and 5 other people. 5 of us are at home 90%…[Read more]

Oh, also, @jess-cook, if you feel like your current clients might be a great referral source but don't want them to mislead potential new clients as to the services you want to offer, I would straight up tell your current clients that! I think that if they really value the VA services they've been getting and if you're not just saying “hey, I'm…[Read more]

@jess-cook I thought about your business over the weekend and wondered if you couldn't have an assistant to do the things that don't require your special touch. This could be another VA who worked under your guidance (it could be you for a while–give yourself another persona!) to free up your time to do the other stuff. You would prepare people…[Read more]

Hi Jess,
I think it makes sense. I think they are the same customer – I think I would be that customer some day in the not too distant future – who would need help with an extra project and then want business consulting.
Maybe they would hire you for the extra project work, then a digital product and then consulting? (I'm not sure how much…[Read more]

Hi guys!
Ok so I'm trying to take my business/work in a new direction, based on a lot of what I've been pulling together from Craft Your Marketing and #MonthofBizLove.
Right now, my main source of income is that I work for a handful of small-biz-owning clients (like Tara), and they pay me by the hour for the number of hours I work.
My new plan…[Read more]

@jess-cook yes! Like, “this dyeing setup is not ideal and I hate taking over the kitchen, but we'll find a house and that will be better so why should I work, now?” when really I should be operating under “this setup is not ideal, but I should get to work and prove that I can add at least $200 a month to our budget so we can afford to buy a house…[Read more]

Day 5: What kind of goal do I need?
I struggle here a bit because I am anxious to get my side hustle off the ground (selling e-courses, maybe consulting, etc.) and I'm motivated to bring in more income as a result of THAT and then be able to let go of some of my current income streams (narrowing down my list of current clients).
So that seems…[Read more]

Playing a bit of catch-up as I didn’t do this over the weekend.
Day 4:
I actually think I have a pretty fixed mindset, according to the two topics of the quiz (intelligence and talent). I guess I’ve always thought, even at the back of my mind, that some people are just born smarter than other people. We can all study hard, learn more, etc. – b…[Read more] -

@mary-roth I have SOOO done that! We’ve been in the process of buying a house for months now (it’s complicated), and I keep thinking of things I want to do to be cleaner/more organized around the house but I blame my current house for the reasons I’m not doing those things. It’s because this house is too (fill in the blank), or – we’re moving anyw…[Read more]

@katie-franceschi I'm having some similar chicken and egg scenarios, right now, with house hunting. If I were able to contribute more (uhm, any, actually– I'm not officially paying myself yet because I was saving everything for that big initial fiber order) to our income, we could actually afford to buy something that has the separate space I…[Read more]

I am doing @monthofbizlove on my own. I have an active IG account but since I'm currently experimenting with very targeted and planned content, gramming my answers isn't a good fit.
Happily, I have my internal and external missions all set from previous Starship work:
External: bring a daily dose of Yarn Love to enrich my customer's lives.

It was a rough month. I didn't reach any of my goals but am ready for this time of year NEXT YEAR! Slow due to trade show season BUT I am glad that I was able to focus on family/household stuff due to craziness going on here.
This next month, I just plan to focus on closing up shop for vacation and of to Vietnam for 3 weeks! So ready! - Load More
