I've been reading along and cheering over all you guys are doing – Yay!
I just had to pop in and say, Ha! @dana-gervais – you're exactly right! It IS a watered-down version of Lift Off! It's what I felt comfortable offering for free, that would help people understand how they need to dig deeper (ie, buy Lift Off!). I just wanted to take a minute…[Read more] -

Hello @shelley669537!
I don't have a FB Group, because I have you guys 🙂
I'd double down on what Karen said: “What I’d do to make sure the group doesn’t take over too much of your time is to set aside a specific time to check into the group” – It'll only take over your time if you check in on it all the time!My bigger concern is that you use…[Read more]

@jenn-lamb I love your realizations about being the BOSS!
The main piece of adivce I have sounds silly, but SO important: The BOSS decides what's going to be done and takes responsibility and that takes a LOT of mental energy – so the boss needs more rest/recovery than just a drone. Making decisions is hard, so you have to build in “not making…[Read more] -

Thanks @tara. I try to remember to go in and comment, but sometimes it takes me a while since I don't spend a lot of time. I do heart things, but comments are harder.

Hey @jill-wolcott + @marcia – Instagram is WAY different than Pinterest! IG is built on community, where Pinterest is, for most people, just where they save pretty things. So! What I do when someone I admire follows me on IG is go back to their IG account, follow them, and them comment on their most recent picture. I don't necessarily say “thanks…[Read more]

tara replied to the topic I made an opt-in…or did I make a blog post? in the forum Engineering 9 years, 1 month ago
So I know this is an old question, but I get people emailing me something similar every month or so, so I want to answer it for you guys as well!
What Jess said re: class vs free content.
But when it comes to free content vs “upgrade” (I need your email address), here's how I think about it.
When I write something wordy and descriptive and…[Read more] -

Hey @lea-ann-mcgregor! Sorry for the delay, I didn't see this! I think that the CYS forum is linked within CYS. If not, you can share it here: https://taraswiger.com/starship-discussion/topic/your-sensational-2016/

tara replied to the topic Membership website meltdown – HELP! in the forum Engineering 9 years, 1 month ago
Ugh, I'm so sorry about this Linda!
I use Memberful to manage your access here to the Starship (but they don't accept Paypal) and I like it, but it costs…$25/mo, I think?
Monthly memberships are definitely a tricky thing to manage and Paypal makes it 100x more difficult because their own “subscriptions” payment is really wonky. (Every bigger…[Read more]

tara replied to the topic seeking feedback RE: #starshipbiz yarn in the forum Engineering 9 years, 1 month ago
Hey Lindsey!
The only thing that's kept me from buying more is that I haven't been at the computer buying yarn b/c of travel and launching craziness.
But I think it's a great yarn, and I agree with Joeli's suggestion to explain if it'll be dyed-to-order or ready to go (and timelines for each).
Alos, I haven't been sure if this is…[Read more] -

Today I worked on Day 18: Allies and Accountability
I'm a Questioner – I need to see the value in something, or to buy into it, and then I get it done. But as soon as I feel obligated to do something because someone else wants me to do it, I resist it. I put it off until the very last minute and I do eventually get it done because I don't want to…[Read more]

Jess Cook started the topic Would you like to contribute to Deb Robson's retreats? in the forum Engineering 9 years, 1 month ago
Hello fabulous fiber artists!
As part of my awesome job, I'm also Deb Robson's assistant (she's the co-author of The Fleece & Fiber Sourcebook). Every year she hosts two (sometimes 3 or 4) spinning retreats, called Explore 4. Basically it's a fully immersive experience where Deb takes the students on a journey of exploration of 4 related fibers.…[Read more]

@jill-wolcott I missed a weekend walk, but got out for a nice and longer-than-intended due to muddy trails walk with Dan yesterday. I think my big hurdles are inclement weather, not living near enough to a park that I can walk there and then walk (fingers crossed this can change when we move, wherever we move), and… not wanting to go by myself?…[Read more]

Thanks very much Kimberley 🙂 I'm looking forward to getting to know fellow yarny designers.
I admire you for getting things done with a chronic illness – there are a few folks I'm following over on Instagram crocheting through such as yourself. I hope you're finding they yarny stuff helps.

Welcome @shelley669537!
I too design crochet as well as knitting patterns and have just started blogging about life with chronic illnesses. I've been designing for two years with many breaks due to the illnesses.
This is a wonderful place to discover new things about business.

Thanks so much Karen 🙂
The time zone thing is something I hadn't considered. I'll have a look and see where my admins are 🙂
And good idea to schedule check ins too. I'll start today trying to stick to my schedule and just try to ignore those little notification numbers as best I can LOL
