YESS! I find that sharing a nascent idea sucks the life force out of it. It needs to rattle around in my head (and journal) before I share it. I heard someone else explain it like this: When you share an idea before you make it, you feel like you've done it – you brought life to the idea by talking it out, when you needed to bring life to the…[Read more]

The first three sound like what I've seen many designers doing.
I didn't see this option: Exclusivity + co-promotion: people only get your pattern IN that kit, for 90 days, then you can sell the pattern on your own. You both promote the heck out of the kit (and I'm guessing split/revenue share). This intros you both to new audiences, and your…[Read more] -

Tanja, that is so fast on your book! I am fairly certain you can pull things together, but I appreciate the feeling of impending overwhelm!

Whatcha working on?
I am beginning the process of packing up our house. Still at high level, but I have boxes and am tackling things that I am trying to move out so we don’t have to move them. What’s going Well?
I am getting things done. Not necessarily fun stuff, but I’m getting stuff done. Tanja noticed that the things that slide on my lists…[Read more] -

I have several fb groups (non-business) and you've done a lot of what I'd suggest, rules, admin if you're not in much, etc.
The key for me is I make the group “closed” which has two advantages…it keeps the riff-raff out because you have to approve new members, and it lets folks speak freely without worrying about it echoing to their personal…[Read more]

Going well:
1) Made a few more pieces for my first one person show opening July 8th. Instagram created this opportunity and is also helping me to do market research to decide which pieces to show. I made “Instagram friends” with one of my collage idols (and one of the most influential collage artists working today) Fred Free and I frequently make…[Read more] -

what's going well? Focus! While there are several projects I'm slogging through, my focus has been awesome this past week. Why? I figured out why I've been seeing ghost foster kittens in my peripheral vision for the past year. It was the hinges of my glasses. We'll ignore it took me so long to figure out, but I'm back in my old pair (same rx, old…[Read more]

I like option number 4 because I am a control freak and if my name is on something, I want to be able to control the quality and placement of the kit. It's definitely the most work, but you will have the freedom to make changes as necessary and will always retain 100% of the rights to your work (rights are also a thing I like to control).

Thank you for your feedback @c-c-almon and @jill-wolcott. I guess I will feel my way through and see if it feels right for me. I have a sample knitter in mind; she is local (a necessity since postal rates where I live are an obstacle) and I know she has done sample knitting before. I'll start by finding out if she's interested and we can take it…[Read more]

I hosted my 2nd annual open house event on my farm this past weekend – which as an alpaca fiber farm – is an outdoor event.
I really, really worked hard to improve the event from the previous year. I did most of the heavy lifting to prepare during the 6 months prior, with another big push the two weeks immediately preceeding. I felt really good…[Read more]
