Barbara Kish replied to the topic Q3 2016 Map-Making Check-in in the forum Goals, Accountability, and Celebrations! 8 years, 10 months ago
So I did look over my original CYS and Map this morning, and while I don't think I was totally off, it could definitely use a tweak. Then as I was about to sit down and do some other practical accounting-y stuff, I could hear some fun going on in the neighbors' pool next door. And I sighed and said to myself, I really need to get this done. This…[Read more]

@james-bartley, heh, I like to hear my own voice sometimes, I think. The poor student teachers who have been subjected to me over the years! 😉 I just hope some of it's useful.

Karen replied to the topic Receipt Scanner App in the forum Engineering 8 years, 10 months ago
I use one on my phone (android) It is called CamScanner and it not only scans the recepts via the camera on your phone but it will upload it to Dropbox, Google Drive or several other cloud storage systems. It is what I use when I travel and at home!

I mentioned this in my other post but wanted to ask here too. I want to find a receipt scanner so when I get something for my shop at the store I can just scan it and not worry about losing it or it becoming unreadable. Do any of you use one? All the reviews I'm finding when I google it are for people that travel for business.

I look forward to reading all of your newsletters. My newsletter is kind of erratic, but I send at least one per month (usually to coincide with a pattern release). You can sign up here.

@james-bartley I like to keep track too! What I am going to be doing starting in Q3 is in my planner – not only recording my todo's and checking them off, but I also have an extra box on the daily page where I can write down the celebrations (Goals hit). THen when I go back and do the monthly, quarterly and yearly reassessments I have one place…[Read more]

James Bartley replied to the topic Monthly Reorientation + Reassessment in the forum Goals, Accountability, and Celebrations! 8 years, 10 months ago
I've only just started to do the planning from CYS and Map making and so on, so reviewing is limited since I didn't really have a clear goal before (well, I have my main aim, but not goals on the way there).
I can see that I've managed to put a lot more structure in place for me this month, which is a big win for me personally as well as…[Read more]

@barbara-kish Hi Barbara, and thanks for such a full response!
For prioritising I tend to use the Critical and Urgent axes:
Crit & Urgent > Crit & Not urgent > Urgent & not crit > Not urgent & not crit.I will use SMART to check my goals once I have an idea, however for me my goals MUST come from moving towards my North Star, and if they're not…[Read more]

@jill-wolcott Ah, thanks! These were part of monthofbizlove, I just didn't click. I'm a Questioner, without a doubt. My rebel kicks in when I'm not convinced of the benefit of doing something – even if everyone else agrees it's a good idea. So for things where I have to experience them in order to know for myself, motivating myself to commit to…[Read more]

Now all of this being said, I'm about to rewrite a whole bunch of my goals because they aren't SMART enough. They've turned out to be not much more than a massive to-do list, which means I skipped over too many steps and I feel like I don't have any direction, even if I'm checking stuff off. It's good to get stuff done, but what I have is a hobby…[Read more]

@james-bartley, from my persepctive, one of the things that separates a business from a hobby is making goals and achieving them. And if you're going to set goals, then you need to achieve those steps in between. Being a teacher in my other life, we have SMART goals pounded into us (not that I ever remember what the acronym stands for-I always…[Read more]

OK I'm in deep now 😉
I have a couple of questions for you if you're willing to share – what's the mechanics of your financial set up? How does it work for you? Do you have a separate bank account just for your biz? Do you do it all via paypal? Some other way?
My way at the moment is most income (blog shop sales, pattern sales from Rav etsy…[Read more]

Thanks so much @katie-franceschi 🙂
I've just finished the calcs for all my products. It wasn't as tricksy as I thought it would be. What I did was average the 5 different profit margins for each product then divided my initial costs by that for a rough break even point on each product, ignoring overheads. That individual product break even…[Read more]
