what works for me is targets, i put all my ‘profit' aside into savings and i tend to look at it and think ‘ i want it to be at 3k by christmas' etc then keep on setting new targets as i reach the last one. This must be a good system for me as i always reach them ( or maybe i dont set them high enough… but I am earning ‘enough' and working…[Read more]

My Map is DONE!! I thought I would attach it here to give others an idea!
Even though I am planning the bulk of the work for Q3 – you will notice on my dates I am actually extending into January because a lot of this is needed for TNNA (http://www.tnna.org) and because contracts do take some time to get with follow up.

Oh I forgot I have another landing page! http://Www.Joelicreates.com/designs
Now I might be getting confused about terminology — to me a landing page is like a welcome mat — you only have one or two options on that page. (Sometimes one is “enter site”) They are great for getting people to sign up for things.
My home page is different — That's just…[Read more]

I'm up to date – yay! I did game day yesterday and have just written my list of 50 but it ended up as a list of near 100 LOL. I probably went too deep into the details of each thing to do. It isn't stressing me out though – it's all tiny steps stuff.

@shelley-husband It took me a while to get that it could be changed! There are so many moving parts it has seemed best to go fairly slowly.

@karen-whooley thanks so much! Yours has a lot of the features I was thinking of having. I love the scroll bar of patterns up the top that take you straight to the pattern 🙂
One thing I did notice was when I clicked on one of the down below links to blog post (Nirvana) there's no link to the pattern purchase in the post. Thought you might…[Read more]

Yes I agree with the others – FTK needs to be front and centre

Thanks Karen. Good call outs. I was thinking about putting together a download of the posts I've done on sizing. The thing is, I totally tossed off this post because I'm in the middle of moving and didn't have time to write something more thoughtful.

*Want* to make is the toughest question, isn't it?
When I started selling patterns, my first goal was to earn enough to finance my hobby. That goal was reached so easy, I set it to finance my hobby and my yarny holidays (knit weekends, yarn festivals).
Then came the month when my yarn income exceeded my paycheck…But back to your question: What…[Read more]

I join the FTK vote.
Be sure to put pretty yarn pictures somewhere below the header, where the content is. -

First off, congrats on getting some great traffic on your blog post!
Okay, total honesty. You say you ask people to sign up for your mailing list. Here's what the end of the post says: “You might want to sign up for my newsletter and get the Getting Good Gauge handout!”
It's a wishy-washy ask, especially the “might” part. So you definitely…[Read more]

I did this awesome post (it is awesome because it has gotten over 600 hits since it went up, mostly from FB) and it is giving me great traffic, but it seems like people are just reading it and that's it. I asked them at the end to sign up for my newsletter, but that isn't happening.
I wrote this post because I needed to do something quickly. It…[Read more]

Jill Wolcott replied to the topic SEO especially Alt text in the forum Engineering 9 years ago
I agree with Shelley. I use something that relates to my SEO. If I have several photos I might say “SEO term: front view” or something. Then I try to put all the images into a file labeled to match that SEO. Theoretically I can find them that way.

How does one set an income goal? I think I need something more specific than, “bring in enough to not use my own money to keep this thing afloat.” I understand how to look at expenses and generate a rough estimate (though I've been kind of blindsided this year, I can see what might be coming up still). I know where I stand with income so far, and…[Read more]
