@james-bartley, this is so funny! Yes, it was a false friend. Hope I did not offend you.
Right, the new Starship has no private messages – but there are email addresses in the profile. -

@tanja-osswald – I'm sorry this is public, as there's no private messaging, but I thought I'd let you know that berate means something different to what I believe you meant.
Edit: I just remembered false friends in French and googled beraten in German – it means to advise, that would make sense. 😉 -

@shelley-husband @tanja-osswald @joeli-kelly
Thank you! It seems like working on the tasks first is a good way to get around this. I've started a list, though I've got to about 21 and needed to take a break. Here's some ideas it inspired which I thought might be milemarkers:

My VA charges $17 – $20 per hour depending on the complexity of the task.

It might help you to switch to writing out the 50 tasks (or as many as you can think of) first. Remember a to-do / task can be completed in one (short) sitting.
Then if you can order those tasks and divide them into 10 groups, then your mile markers could be as simple as 10% done, 20%, etc.

What about telling us all you have to do – either we can berate you which ones are mile markers or you will see them yourself, once you've written them down?

Thanks Jill for the input. I actually just offered a $25/hr quote, so it looks like I'm not too far off. She thinks it will take 3-5hrs to administer 39 tests, which I warned her might be underestimating the time investment. We shall see how it works out.
And Shelley, always glad to help! What type of project? You can check out my website at…[Read more]

Working on: Setting up my new Facebook group. I've been thinking about it for a while. Caitlin Bacher has been talking about Facebook groups lately, and what she's said convinced me to go ahead and do it. At first I was worried about tackling yet another thing, but I feel really excited and “right” about doing this.
I've been feeling that my…[Read more]

How about something like “Customer Path Map Complete” “System created for XYZ task” “schedule for non-billable work created”
Frame them as if the task is complete 🙂

I've started the map making process, and breathed a huge sigh of relief as I did the visualisation of the end result!
Now I'm coming up with mile markers, but I'm not sure how to apply that idea to my situation.
My goal is to have my customer path, from enquiry to paid invoice, mapped out and documented, with checklists for each section. A way…[Read more]

I have paid by the test. About what I would pay a knitter, plus yarn for the project.
I pay a VA $25/hour and $15 for easier jobs that are ongoing and repetitive

I can't help with your question, but could be another client for you LOL. I have a huge project coming up that needs all that done and I am dreading it! I imagine if you have systems in place the time wouldn't be too onerous.

Whatcha workin on?
On a whim, I started a a-pattern-a-day week and will pair that with a blog post a day. This is mainly my incentive to get some almost-finished patterns out – they are clogging up my in progress folder. What’s going well?
Today I went to a LYS knit meeting – and the owner whisked me away to her office and proposed lots of d…[Read more] -

Hi All,
I was wondering if any wonderful captains with experience hiring VAs (virtual assistants) would be willing to share the rates they pay? I'm a technical editor, and I've got a client asking me to run her testing pools for her. My technical editing rate is $35/hr, but I think that is out of line with running testing pools, but I'm not sure…[Read more]

No need to apologize, @jill-wolcott! It is awesome that you got that epic task almost done now! And extra awesome you got help! Did you notice that your What's going well? is a whopping 8 paragraphs long! You are awesome!
I'm looking forward to read about your unpacking progress! -

Whatcha working on?
This will be my last post about packing. Then we turn to unpacking! My apologies, especially to Tanja. I didn’t even do a weekly to do list because I knew I would pretty much be packing. What’s going Well?
Well packing is much more daunting than I recalled. I am in the final stages because the movers arrive on Thursday! Mor…[Read more] - Load More
