@riin-gill I've now got my contact in and coffee so I can think about a better response!
I have swatches that I just throw into a box for later consideration. I hang swatches above my desk so I can look at them (this is currently not available as I haven't reattached the wire I use), and some of them, the ones I want for ongoing reference, I put…[Read more]

I agree about opening it up to those at the show… as for how to do this, here's what I do. I make a listing for that order so it's right there when they want to order it. When I process their order I have them enter their email, then I have it to communicate with them. I always offer free shipping for pre orders at shows because usually I've…[Read more]

I agree with @tanja-osswald, but I think in fairness they must pay at the show. My other suggestion would to have a lottery–they would get their names in, and if drawn (you need to commit to a set number of skeins) they will pay via PayPal. All of this is going to cost you money in shipping and time, so I would really consider if this is how you…[Read more]

Yay for people being excited about the show color!
Because this was marked as a show exclusive, you really need to stick to that instead of opening up orders to anyone, at least before the exclusivity period runs out. Here's what I'd do:
For anyone at the show (and only someone at the show) who wants the color, have them pre-order it. They…[Read more]

I was going to offer the exact same idea as Tanjia said. Order at the booth only, ask them to pay up front, give them an honest timetable of arrival (at 10% in time if you really aren't sure that your best guess is right) and offer free shipping (first class) but if they want it sooner give them the option to pay a flat rate up front for Priority…[Read more]

Yay for your successful colorway! That's great!
What about having people order yarn at your booth? That way, they can only buy it on the show but you get time to dye it and send it to them later. You could even offer them the option to pay for the yarn directly so it won't go through your online shop at all (maybe you pay shipping if they pay…[Read more] -

Accept that this is the way you are wired. You can allow yourself to be jittery – after all, it is a big thing and you've been working on it a long time. I second trying physical activity. Knitting and crocheting relaxes, too. Plus, don't schedule anything you have to do in those last days before the big event. Just give your mind permission to be…[Read more]

So I'm at Stitches right now and I VASTLY underestimated the demand for the show specific colorway. I feel terrible about it and I've already had people upset they couldn't get it and the market hasn't officially opened yet! Good problem to have but I don't want to turn away or tick off customers!
I have reserve stock so I can put out new stock…[Read more]

@jill-wolcott, I have a ton of finished, still in process works. But thanks for attributing me efficiency! 🙂
@riin-gill, maybe the issue is just that you need an extra space to keep your things you need for pattern writing? As Jill suggests, a separate container, just for those projects in transition. You can have the one project you are working…[Read more]

So the part I would argue with is the bringing it to my computer to transfer notes. Make the notes on paper, type them in, then take the paper to the knitting. I know it sounds stupid, but it will keep some of that piling up happening. Try to make a rule that you will update pattern notes say, M-W-F, and if you get stuck and need to consult your…[Read more]
