Hi All!
Has anyone here used Smashwords for a knit/crochet book. I have been reading about them a lot lately as a really great way to publish books in eBook format. I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
My biggest question is how do you do books with photos? It says to upload MSword docs, but I see a lot of photo books on there.…[Read more]

Midland And Monroe have very different cultures.
Midland's biggest influence is Dow Chemical, it's pretty much a company town. Has lots of very smart scientists and other educated people. We sang at their lovely Library's stage in '06. Feels small as a city for me. Well tended.
Monroe is more industrial. I have taught computers at La-z-Boy a…[Read more]

I know very little about yarns but I have dyed a few times and that sounds like a bit of a scam to me – colors running while knitting, no camera phone and so forth. I would be cautious about putting something on website regarding this as a possibility b/c what if that made people not want to buy especially if this is the first alleged occurrence.

To answer your question: treat this as a one off and forget about it. One incident does not mean you need to do a whole systems overhaul.

Thanks, you guys. It's good to know that I'm not off base thinking that his message seems rather odd.
@jill-wolcott: Yes, the message came from the contact form on my website. Good idea about asking about the label.
@tanja-osswald: He did name the yarn base and color name. But since he was using the contact form from my website, he could have…[Read more]

@karen-robinson did it come as email or from your contact me on your website? If the contact me, then it may well be bogus. Sounds pretty preposterous. I would ask him to mail you the label (it only takes one stamp) and you will refund the money.
Given how you have explained your process, I think there is not likely to be a quality control issue.…[Read more]

Lesson 2 done and it was perfect timing as I'm working on my website making things easier to navigate with clearer paths. I have a list of things to work on but it's not too daunting.
Still tweaking my statement – didn't notice until it was pointed out that I used design & designing in the first line LOL
Coincidentally, last week my tiny town…[Read more]

what a yucky experience. Sounds like a made up story especially as there is no proof forthcoming. Perhaps another thing to do is to update your policies eg What do I do if I have a problem with the yarn? I try my very best to ensure all products are top quality etc etc however, if you do find a problem, please contact me with a photo and…[Read more]

What an awful experience!
So, on the one hand, I agree with Amy about refunding etc.
On the other hand, the story sounds made-up. Can you ask him to send you the finished piece and the yarn label? You can offer to return it to him and refund him the money or gift him another skein or two of your yarn. No access to photographic equipment sounds…[Read more] -

Thanks, Amy. Your comment made me realize that my original question isn't really the question that I have.
Of course, if he's dissatisfied, I have no problem with sending him a refund or a new skein of yarn.
My real issue is this: If his experience with the yarn is true, then I am dealing with a major quality control issue. How many other skeins…[Read more]

I'm going to propose a third option: the truth of his story doesn't matter. He's unhappy and sharing his unhappiness with you, and one skein of yarn (either replaced or refunded) is a small price to pay to get him to shut up and go away. It feels big because of the drama he's attached to it, but really the occasional replacement/refund is just one…[Read more]

I got an email tonight from someone that basically said the following:
I got a skein of your self-striping sock yarn as a gift.
I used it to make an heirloom baby blanket.
When I washed it, the color ran so much the colors are now completely faded.
As I was knitting, I found no fewer than 5 knots in the skein.I've already responded to this…[Read more]

Hi everyone!
I'm so excited to celebrate my first major press mention, which was on allure.com. It was posted on August 4. http://www.allure.com/gallery/crochet-swimsuits-for-summer Mine is the first brown bikini and my brand is Amy Eve Jo. If you feel so moved, it'd be great if you pin/save/share the story to Pinterest or any of the other…[Read more]
