@tanja-osswald yes the book is cheaper.. but I want the book to sell first. From my experience, if I sell the individual patterns up front with the book, the book is going to tank because people will pick and chose their patterns and not buy the whole book. Since I am doing this all myself, it is not financially responsible to part out the book…[Read more]

Interesting topic. I always feel guilty about taking any time off from my business, even just for 4-5 days for conference. When I had the store, for years I was open 7 days a week; until I finally decided to close on Sundays since I wasn't making much money anyway. I find it hard to turn off, even when I am doing personal things, I am thinking of…[Read more]

Can you tell me what exactly you mean by “hot mess”? I have an idea but it is highly idiomatic, so I'm not quite sure…

What an exiting topic! I'm looking forward to getting that class!
Thinking about it, taking a leave affects all aspects of a business, so I'd like to have you treat all aspects of it regarding a break (production, marketing, social media, money, …). If it is a planned leave, this would be the time to enlist help, so preparing the brake and…[Read more]

I would like to have something to make my map for the quarter in front. Then pages for each day, week, month – with room to write daily and weekly goals/to do's – steps toward my big goal. Having it all in one place would be great. Maybe even a page or 2 to get track of information/contacts etc, for a big project. I usually write a list of my big…[Read more]

Thank you, @jill-wolcott. Overwhelm is something I feel not because I have too many things to do but when I'm not sorted enough and always have the nagging feeling I should do something else more urgently. If I get down to make a big list or something, then I can decide what needs to be done what I can skip or postpone. Maybe I should make that…[Read more]

WHy would someone buy the book if they can already get the patterns individually.
Because a book is cheaper than the individual patterns? The book I'm publishing is with a normal publisher, so can you tell me what a non “full blown” book is for you?
But I'm sure you know the US market better than me, so I don't want to talk you out of your…[Read more]

I'd love to do a Hot Mess crochet pattern for the Hot Mess project. I understand more people than I can be interested in this take on the project, so I'm happy to discuss!

Today in the first chat, Kathleen suggested I create a “real” book from the Map Making Guide. Perhaps a kind of planner.
Perhaps it would be a quarterly planner, with Map Making in the front, followed by weekly planning (what are your priorities?) and weekly reviews, and Monthly reviews.Since then, several Captains have mentioned that they…[Read more]

So, in today's second chat, I shared my theory of Hot Messes (see below). We got silly as there was talk of a Hot Mess pattern, and a Hot Mess knit along, and then I said: OMG guys! A Hot Mess Business-along! I have no idea what that is, but I like it!
And then it turned into: A collaborative project! With projects, essays and arts by all of us…[Read more] -

So Stacey asked me to do a class with her monthhhhs ago, about Maternity Leave. Basically, there's no info on how to do it in your creative business and she has Thoughts.
(Quick aside, through discussing this in chat I've learned that maternity leave internationally is MONTHS longer than in the US. Most of my friends here just got 2 weeks unpaid…[Read more] - Load More
