Karen, how exciting!!!
Love, love, love it.
One thing I want to put in a request for as a customer of books like this: Get the patterns up on Ravelry as early as you're willing/able to do it! It makes me nuts when a new book comes out and I can't see the patterns inside it. It doesn't even have to have a lot of details on each pattern listing,…[Read more]

Hi @jess-cook that is super, super helpful although now I want to cry. I am so not up to this stuff. I will have to print your email out and start the page from the beginning again, because it really is just crap. What you've said all makes a ton of sense and so I will probably use that as a framework. gnahhhhh. *cries*
I have to go prepare for a…[Read more] -

Hi Katherine!
The link thing is super weird; I will ask our tech guru about it, but I'm not sure what the answer is there.
For what it's worth, this is my feedback on the page:
For me it's too long. It's a LOT of black and white, which is difficult to process. You're giving a lot of information, which is great, but I think it probably needs to…[Read more]

Jess Cook replied to the topic Choosing which show to apply to in the forum Engineering 8 years, 9 months ago
It's so hard, because so much of what you're choosing is based on unknown factors – how many people will show up at each show this year? How much will they respond to your products? How much will they spend?
Of course you can't know any of that, so it makes it a whooooole lot harder. If it were me I would make myself an actual written-out pro/con…[Read more]

You've gotten some great responses here! I just wanted to reiterate:
1. You do NOT have to defend your policies. That's what they're there for – you simply explain them and you don't have to do anything else. (This is a great blog post on not apologizing for the price of your work, which I think also very much applies to policies like this!)
2.…[Read more]

I've had to be reminded of minimum order requirements from others before. You can just casually send a reminder that opening order requirements are a, b, c. Which base/color /whatever is needed to fill in would you like added. And reiterate your payment terms as well. If she can't meet your minimum opening, better to move on to the next customer…[Read more]

Yay for a wholesale order!
About the requirements: I guess it is about finding the right words. Maybe think of a situation that is totally clear for you – say, you are a waiter at a cafe and when you serve people sitting in the garden, you have them pay upon receiving their drinks (this is a frequent policy around here). You want their money, they…[Read more] -

I have a yarn shop that has decided to place a wholesale order (woohoo!), however the order that they are wanting to place is in no way in line with my minimum order requirements.
Rather than a $ amount, I ask that shops order a minimum number of skeins of yarn, and further ask them to order each base in a multiple of 10 (in any color…[Read more]

I have 2 shows on the same weekend… KY Sheep and Fiber Festival, and a new one near Williamsburg, VA.
KY is an established show, it's a completely new market, I don't have any shows near it. But it's 7 hours away.
VA show is new, it's the first year of the show (which can be good or bad) it's somewhat near 2 other shows I do so there will…[Read more]

Hi folks! I'm working hard on my first official workshop and I am trying to decide how best to accept payments. In years past folks have just sent cheques or transferred directly to my bank, but I want to step my game up after the inspiration of Starship and all you captains. Instead of adding a paypal button straight onto my site, would it make…[Read more]

@tanja-osswald super helpful again – thank you! I'm so used to doing the workshops I don't even have these things pop up on my radar, so I'm very grateful.

I like it, Katherine! With the bolded headings, everything is sorted clearly.
You might want to read the whole text tomorrow (after lettings things rest in your mind) and see whether there are some smoothyfyings to be made.
One inconsistency: You say the nearest village is 2 miles away and below you mention the village by name and say it is 3…[Read more] -

nope, it really hates me. I've update the page though @tanja-osswald so it now has – I think – all the answers! I know @tara is super busy but maybe I could get some feedback on whether there's now TOO MUCH info?? Should it be popping out into a sub-page?

Hi @tanja-osswald what great questions. These are really helpful! I will work on the questions and get them added to the page later. I was thinking this morning that it's not a very ‘visual' page, so photographs are a good plan.
Briefly (as much for my own reference!)
– Money: Teaching, breakfast food, morning and afternoon coffee and biscuits,…[Read more] - Load More
