Oh and @jess-cook – I was just watching what other indie authors do that have success. THey usually keep the price the same but if they buy the book, throw in the PDF for free.

OH @jess-cook This is helpful! I didn't think about having the photos up early. Hmmmm.. If I do an early pre sale, they will be up for that for sure.
I like the influencer idea. Would that be the same as the advance readers? But I can start a list of those who might be interested in do a project. Podcasters are the hard ones for me. I…[Read more]

@jess-cook thank you, I appreciate your support. I've started to consider taking on other kinds of work, maybe even transitioning away from my shop completely but that feels so daunting, like starting from 0 all over again. I'm not good with change so I guess that's why It feels safer to just keep chugging along with this even though growth is so…[Read more]

what's going well & what are you working on?
I knew October would be disjointed and feel a little rough so I've tried to plan accordingly. I think overall I'm doing ok and that's great! Normally by this point in the jewish holiday cycle I just want to curl up into a ball.
I was actually very happy the first two days of Sukkot were immediately…[Read more]

Have a tiny bit to add re: other formats: To put your book in Kindle format, check out Pressbooks. I haven't tried it myself (yet), and I don't know how it works with pictures and such, but it looks very easy and I know it's used by other self-publishing authors.

Lots of good questions above – and I love the Time Out or Burn Out title.

Whatcha workin on?
I decided I need some extra time for house-cleaning and things like that this month, so I'm making a list of the things I feel I have to do this month in my business – and once I've worked through that, I'll give myself a holiday at home. What’s going well?
Yesterday, I put together my tax infos and I found all of them. 🙂 I d…[Read more] -

And that is why it is such a good project idea! We all have our version of that @tanja-osswald, which we sometimes show, and sometimes not.

Thank you, @jess-cook!
That's a lovely idea, @jill-wolcott! I would envision something layered, like mitts with a colorful inner layer and some neutral to cover it, so you can decide how much of the “mess” you want to show.

Love that @jess-cook! I always picture a project–with threads and bits hanging, that looks perfect from the outside. 😉 In my case it would be unworked ends, pin markers, etc.

@jill-wolcott I love that idea! I picture like a big sewn basket to hide clutter before company comes and a knitted hat to cover messy hair, haha!

My idea was that we would have a project book, wherein each of us who wanted to contribute, would provide a project that embodied either our hot-mess-ness, or what hot mess meant for us. We had been talking about Lars' project called “Super Gay”–or somehow those were combined, I'd have to go look at the transcript.
Most of us know that our…[Read more]

@tanja-osswald it's figurative language. It kind of means that you are disorganized/disheveled but you're still holding it together, at least somewhat.
It can be a term commonly used by women to describe themselves, sort of self-deprecating. “I wish my house was as clean as Sally's but I'm too much of a hot mess to ever make that happen.” Or it…[Read more]

Jess Cook replied to the topic Printed Map Making Guide and/or Planner in the forum Engineering 8 years, 9 months ago
I just wanted to throw in my two cents that it'd be super awesome if it had the CYS guide at the front followed by 4 versions of the map making guide. I know that tends to be a lot of paper, though, and it's really only useful for LO and SS since nobody else gets CYS, but it'd be awesome to have alllll my yearly planning stuff right there in one book. 🙂

Oh @s589886 I'm sorry! (Also I have no idea why your user name didn't get fixed with the others but I'll get on that ASAP.)
No tears!! So much of what you have here is great, and you absolutely do NOT have to take my suggestions, either! For me it's more about rearranging the material than starting all over! (But I literally write sales pages for…[Read more]

Karen, how exciting!!!
Love, love, love it.
One thing I want to put in a request for as a customer of books like this: Get the patterns up on Ravelry as early as you're willing/able to do it! It makes me nuts when a new book comes out and I can't see the patterns inside it. It doesn't even have to have a lot of details on each pattern listing,…[Read more]
