When rights revert back to you, does the online course still have the right to use the pattern? Do they have the right to sell the pattern or give it away for free, or will it be used exclusively as content for their course?
If you are offering tutorials, photos, and layout in addition to the design, I think you are probably close with 100X the…[Read more]

Thanks @tanja-osswald 🙂 Yes I can use the same patterns myself later and they would only be available to her paying customers. I am not sure how many subscribers she has. A good question to ask. Thank you 🙂

Oh I forgot a step. I also outsource chart making. Love that! I found her via Ravelry searching the forums for folks who do charting. She's amazing and we're working really well together 🙂

Going Well:
Right now, all I am working on is keeping going. Homeschooling has added a whole new layer of stuff to my days and I can't remember the last time I painted. That is a big challenge as my only income is from commissions.
I am also on track with my university degree – I am working towards a psychology qualification so that in 6 years, I…[Read more] -

Hi Kimberley, I would second the above suggestions:
– uniform photography backgrounds
– modelled shots if possible – but keep a flat one too. I think mannequin heads are ok but people are best
– I undertsnd about the chronic illness challenges but focus on the cosy, cuddly, cute joy your creations will bring first. That's your goal, although you…[Read more] -

Thank you, @shelley-husband!
Outsourcing editing my patterns is something that never occured to me.
By the way, I found my tech editors/ proofreaders the same way as you did. And my translator. 🙂 -

Here are my experiences in that direction: Last year, I submitted to knotions.com, an online magazine. They ask exclusive publishing rights for the first three month. Their pricing started at $75 (and it stayed opaque to me how they decided on the final amount).
So, $100 seems like a good estimate to me.On the other hand: Will your pattern be…[Read more]

– What steps in the process from design idea to published pattern have you ever outsourced? Were you happy with the experience?
*Graphic design – so glad I did this! I have a cohesive look from my blog to my shop to my patterns and even my socials
*tech editing – I've only recently started doing this where I pay someone to do it for me. She is…[Read more] -

Hi 🙂
I've been approached and asked if I would consider offering a pattern for exclusive use by an online course runner for a 3 month period.
I would, but I am having trouble coming up with a price. I do need to clarify what exactly she wants for her money, but it's feasible I could offer one or more of the patterns I plan on releasing next…[Read more]

Thanks a lot for that list, @dana-gervais! I'm doing quite a lot of those things but it never occured to me to write a check-list. So useful!
@karen-robinson, I'd love to have someone who uses Facebook for me…

No, I'd have the person I hired do both tasks. I'm not very good at either one. (I would do all the Instagram and Facebook posting myself though.)

Here is a link to my pattern release checklist, it's evolved a bit since I created this pdf, but most of the actions I take when I release a pattern are included: https://1drv.ms/b/s!AvTLaCJ1HX9Cr1fDd9T2q285uNsa

Thank you, @kimberley-bridgwater! I totally feel with you about not enough crafting time! Especially, when it is paired with illness.
I think I'll polish the German version of the text tomorrow and then find out how to fudge an empty ebook into Ravelry…

Thank you, @jess-cook, for all the constructive criticism. I appreciate the help!
I'm glad the shop looks well rounded. That was my goal. I didn't want the shop to look empty upon launching.
Your examples helped and gave me the idea of trying to make hat stands.
I will look into the About Me page. That is weird.
And I will work on making the…[Read more]

I agree, hats look better modelled than flat. I have arranged for my 16 year old neice to model the adult hats that fit her. I need to talk to my sister about maybe doing some modelling and her five year old as well. I'm also going to try to DIY a hat stand out of wire clothes hangers for when no one fits the hat size. I find using dolls to model…[Read more]
