Welcome to the Starship, @leigh1351956!
There is a fine line between doing what you love and being productive enough to be profitable. It's a line I'm still straddling myself. With @tara and all the supportive captains it's a line I believe we can both make work.

I was on the phone today with the woman who runs Artsy Shark (blog/site more aimed at traditional artists than crafters) talking about an interview/article she wanted me to write on wholesaling (for publishing next Tues – ack! But I actually wrote most of it this afternoon). Anyway, she told me that she'd been very impressed with my website (I…[Read more]

So I'm going to be at the Pittsburgh Knit and Crochet again this year (my 4th year) and I'm adding Project Journals I'm creating. I'm going to have them printed and bound and I'm wondering how many should I shoot for bringing? Attendance last year was 4,000.

Hello!
I'm Leigh, a New Zealander, who lives in the Yorkshire, UK. I share my life with two silly little dogs, and a Hairy Man, who works off shore.
Until recently I was just selling knitting bags on Etsy, however I've added needle cases, knitting needles, and hand-dyed yarn to that recently.
On the face of it I have two challenges. I'd like…[Read more]

I have had a crochet course planned for over a year now. So this interests me too. I have done a lot of the prep work already. I really need to make it a focus for the next quarter I think.
I was always planning on doing it all myself – not via a third party. Not sure if that's wise or not. I guess we'll see.

Thank you @jess-cook 🙂
You're right. Folks don't have to read it if they don't want to.
That's something I need to start scheduling in – posting the odd review to social media. I will do that – thank you 🙂
I was thinking of linking to my page on my new product thing, but should put an actual one in too so its there in front of people.…[Read more]

Whatcha Working On? Lots of tech editing and several designs in various stages of production. Also looking ahead to 2017 and what I want my business and life to look like next year.
What's Going Well I feel like everything is going well right now – I'm a bit busier than I'm usually comfortable with, but I'm coping!

I'm in on this discussion. I've been struggling with how to get away from the patterns and into teaching. The technology/coordination always throws me.

Going well: I don't have any major deadlines right now, so I've been doing some planning for things to be launched next year. (And lots of holiday gift knitting.) It feels good to not be in stress mode right now at the holidays.
Working on: Getting details for my next yarn club worked out. I have the main outline so now I just need to more…[Read more]

I wish I'd been there… My whole new business model is built on the teaching side. I'm not a designer nor an I a yarnie. I need to collaberate with folks who are. So far, I've teamed with Helene Rush and Lorna Miser. I'm looking for others to purchase their patterns and yarn and collaberate on team teaching in my venue, clubKnit.knittingtoday.com…[Read more]

I've already had a breakthrough! All along I've been thinking that the pattern is the thing to sell (because that's how I've been doing it), but Joeli is saying that the lesson is the thing to sell and to give the pattern away. Whoah.

In chat today @joeli-kelly said “I would rather see you make your own YouTube videos, build your own audience, and then sell them a class yourself that you host on teachable. But that's just my opinion.”
This thread is a place to expand upon that notion and discuss how to make online knitting courses explode!

Welcome to all the new captains, I love the international growth!
what's going well & what are you working on?
Looking at the calendar to determine project focus for the next few months (aka head start on 2017 maps) and not forget that there are still days left in December. 😉
Today's focus is already proving challenging, we're still dealing…[Read more]
