Hi everyone! I'm Rachel. I'm a new captain as of 2 days ago.
My business is Dyeabolical. I have primarily been selling hand dyed yarns and fibers for almost 10 years now. I've had side ventures in to dyeing fabric, making and selling headbands, dyeing silk ribbon, and making soap, but primarily it's been yarns and fibers. I have over 70…[Read more]

I think having 3 or 4 OOAK colourways in sample size skeins that you have tucked away and if somebody says the silly catch phrase you can give them a sampler with their purchase. Kind of a collect them all sort of game. Maybe take a photo of their haul with the skein and post it to your feed? Make it a game that isn't time sensitive and works…[Read more]

1. how do you use testimonials? Where do you have them show up?
I use them in product listings. I pepper them throughout the Etsy listing and sales page 🙂
I am beginning to think about posting the best ones in cute text on Instagram occasionally. I'm stopped merely by being too busy to make the graphic at the moment wopwop haha
2. do you…[Read more]

We went with a mic that attaches to the top of my DSLR. Because my audio is all pretty much sit in front of the camera and talk it was the best option.
I spin so we felt like a cord of any kind would be a disaster (hello corespun wire…) and a boom pole isn't good because I film alone and a desktop mic is also hard due to the whole recording…[Read more]

Long timeeeee! I'm back in the swing of things!
My question is about Patreon.
I'm switching gears, finally after like 2 years of waffling about it, to focusing fully on my SPIN Weekly youtube show. That means I'm not going to be creating any more products for to foreseeable future. Scary. I really need the money my business brings in but I…[Read more]

Thanks, Rachel.
I'm so thankful to have this resource to be able to get info from other yarn dyers. I had a feeling that the wholesale information I had been finding might not fully apply for yarn dyers, so it's really nice to have that confirmed. I super appreciate the help!

Anyone else out there use a Bullet Journal or some other type of planner to track their business? I'd love to hear how yours is set up. I'd wait for this topic until we kick off in January, but oddly enough my current journal will run out at the end of December – maybe with one or two pages left. So 2017 gets to start off with a brand new…[Read more]

don't worry @jill-wolcott i'm evaluating in-house options too. for all of these systems, it all comes down to budget. :/
adding: not all, but budget can greatly influence what's available.

the routine tasks I detest become events in my calendar. they still can get ignored but I'm more likely to do them if my calendar tells me i have to. i also try to update information like that as routinely as i can, so all i need to do is look at a dashboard summary each month and then think about it.
