Welcome @vicky-kooyman ! I was a rental consultant and property manager for many years – I feel you about the stress. Burnout is the reason I divested and shut down the business. Good for you for setting boundaries and limits! I'm also an adoptive Mum to a little boy and I also have a daughter. My son turned 11 this week. We have a lot in common!

Whatcha working on? It's been a slower week than normal so I used the time to finish my Q1 map, mind map some ideas that have been marinating in my brain for a while, get my various organizational systems ready for next year and chart some new pattern ideas.
What's going well? I feel really on top of things right now. I know it's temporary,…[Read more]

what's going well
Last Friday I answered a call for crochet designs and a box should arrive here on Thursday to work with. I wasn't going to do it (imposter syndrome flareup), but I still put together the proposal. I was surprised when the response was incredibly positive. The deadline is tight, but my schedule looks good (as long as the box does…[Read more]

Thanks so much @grace-shalom-hopkins. I had no idea all this would be so complicated when I decided to do this! I appreciate you input and will keep you posted!

Thanks so much @karen-robinson. It is going to be a video-cast. (My son gets so frustrated with me when I say podcast!) Anyway, it will be recorded on a DSR more than likely. I do have a video camera as well. We are still playing with all that. I am going to research the mics you suggested. I appreciate the info!

Welcome, @vicky! Those longarm quilting machines look awesome – I once saw one at a fair. It was like meditation to watch it. So, you could offer meditation classes… just kidding. 🙂
About the name, I second Sarah's idea. The Finishing Line (with a subtitle mentioning quilting) has a nice feel of accomplishment. -

@vicky Welcome! Good for you to work hard to balance home and work. It is really hard for me to stop and do family life and for my family to know I am working.
I would second @tawny-reynolds and seriously think about what you love to do as you move forward. If you aren't doing what you love, you will burn out. Re: having people in your office,…[Read more]

@vicky, well good for you! I find that boundary a difficult one, but that makes a ton of difference (I have to do it the opposite way sometimes–I'm sorry, I can't make lunch until I finish this . . .). Good for you on getting something for yourself, because it sounds like you bought yourself some headaches with the rentals.
My idea for a new…[Read more]

Welcome @Vicky! Well done on establishing “business hours” That's something I still need to work on 🙂
My thoughts on your longarm options are:
1. Do you actually want people coming into your new office space? It sounds like it's too big to actually loan *out* (?) Will you have to be there while they do their sewing (limiting the times…[Read more] -

Hi Everyone.
My name is Vicky. My business name is currently Studio Upstairs Quilting, but I kind of don't like it and would love to find a more “fun” suitable name for my business and soon.About 5 years ago, my mom passed away. After everything was said and done with her estate, my husband and I ended up with 8 rental properties and 6…[Read more]

@sarah-walworth, it often takes a village! I wouldn't have gotten there if @jess-cook hadn't laid it out clearly.

Entice them, then offer a reason to stay engaged beyond just what you are giving away.
This is it! Thanks, @jill-wolcott!

Thanks to @jess-cook for a great concept on this, and it gave me another way to make this really worth your while. If you get people on your mailing list with the download, and offer to notify them of updates to the list via your email, you will get a lot of people who will stick around. So what about beyond that? Maybe do a series on common…[Read more]

@jess-cook Thanks for this. This whole process is new to me, so the learning curve is real. I am glad for the push from @joeli to get my marketing in gear this way and I really appreciate everyone's input.

You've gotten some great ideas here! I wanna throw in my two cents for it being an opt-in, but that the opt-in is actually a link to your website.
So it goes like this:
They sign up for your email list and they immediately get an email (IDK which email newsletter software you're using but it should be either a welcome email or an automated…[Read more]
