Whatcha workin on?
Same as last week: My pattern for February and the MCAL. And I'm working on a magazine submission. Besides, there is a lot of things I should do that accumulated over the last two weeks. I hope this weekend will let me work off items back to a normal level. What’s going well?
I met another Captain! Yesterday, I left the c…[Read more] -

@petra-sielias Yay for reducing office hours! Can you tell me more about the YAL? 1500 skeins sound like a huge amount but I'm no dyer.
@riin-gill I agree with the others about growing, not dying. Maybe you can see yourself as a butterfly, shedding a cocoon (a very warm and yarny one). And no need to give away the cocoon for free!

I have bags of scrap yarn that I don't want to go to waste each year. I've given them to different charities for stuffing, but none of them are still doing the projects and my friends have used them for dog beds and such but do not need any more. Does anyone in the states have a use for them? I just don't want them to go into a landfill and I'm…[Read more]

@riin-gill I know it seems horrible, but you would have years to regret if you sold too cheaply!

@karen-robinson Thank you. I read the craft industry alliance article shortly after my post. It made me feel a lot better and gave me more food for thought. I hadn't heard of the Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's response. I'm looking it up now. 🙂

Craft Industry Alliance just posted an article about expressing political views as a craft business owner. The article was helpful and the comments are interesting.
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee also recently posted a blog post in which she expressed some opinions about gender and said a bit about the U.S. presidency. Many comments were supportive, but…[Read more]

Well, the woman in OH said my price was too high for her to make any money and didn't make a counter offer. I asked her if she wanted to buy any of it, and pointed out that I was selling at wholesale prices, slightly less if she bought the whole lot. She replied that she sells skeins of merino/alpaca yarn in her shop for $20. Don't ask me how she…[Read more]

I use Stitch Mastery and love it, so I definitely recommend that one. (I've also heard good things about Envisioknit but don't have any experience with it myself.)

I was focused on an editing project yesterday and didn't get a chance to check in.
Working on: Spreading the word about the opening of my latest yarn club. Dyeing the first month's shipment as subscribers join. Trying to make progress on my book project (which got bogged down a bit due to two projects not working out as planned and having to frog…[Read more]

@petra-sielias Thanks for the reply! All those things are bouncing around in my head. Hearing you voice them makes them less scary and more normal 🙂 I really appreciate you sharing your experience.

I'm sorry I'm a day late.
Whatcha Working on? I'm swatching, knitting, tech editing and pattern writing like a fiend.
What's going well? In the past week I have put out calls for yarn support and the response has been incredible. I now have yarn support lined up until the end of the year, so I'm busily planning designs and writing patterns.…[Read more]

@riin-gill (((Hugs))) grieving is a tough process. I hope you find a way to nurture yourself, like @jill-wolcott suggests, and I really hope that store in OH buys all the yarn so you can put this part of the process to rest.

@riin-gill, I think you should do it–I'm just telling Rob to keep his eagle eye on you to make sure. For some reason it matters when we do it ourselves. I suck at it (doing things specifically to pamper myself). I get you about getting to do some stuff not for the business. I got a small windfall as part of a class action, and my first…[Read more]

{hugs} @riin-gill, echoing @jill-wolcott wise words. I am likely in your camp and doing something nice for myself would be low on my list, but please do some nice small things. I'm slowly learning how much they help me and my day. {{hugs}}
